OLD YEARBOOKS FOR SALE
In the process of cleaning out our yearbook storage, we realized we have a pretty big collection of old Highland yearbooks just sitting there. So we’re turning it into a fundraiser! 100% of the proceeds will go back to the yearbook program. The program is taking 14 students to the Rocky Mountain Journalism Yearbook Camp in Fort Collins, Colorado, at the end of June, so the proceeds from this fundraiser help us out immensely!
We’ll be hosting a community sale on Thursday, May 14th from 5:00–8:00 PM in the commons.
Yearbook students put together a live doc with the years we currently have available.
You can pay with cash or Venmo. Our Venmo is @Highland-Activities. If you use Venmo, please include either "yearbook + year" in the memo so we can keep everything straight.

College Career Advisors
Dear Highland Students and Families,
Welcome to the month of May . . . when all the good stuff happens. Read on and take note. There are so many things to remember – and do. Heads up.
Boise State Here – Thurs., May 14th
Seniors, Bailey from Boise State admissions will be here to talk to all our Boise-bound students on Thursday, May 14. She will be in the CCA area from 11 am to 12:30. Bailey will be glad to assist students get important pre-college items completed before the school year wraps up. This is important. Graduation season and the summer will be so much easier if you are headed to Boise, you’ve done what is expected of you, and you are ready.
Final Launch Offers Are In!
Senior students who applied for Idaho Launch have received emails that direct them to accept their final Launch offers. Student friends, do NOT delete that email; we encourage you to bookmark it / highlight it / put it in a folder for later reference. Remember that this program is good for $4,000 a year, $8,000 total for college or training or apprenticeships. Students need to do some stuff: 1) finish all four of their modules on Next Steps Idaho, 2) come in to visit the CCAs with their drivers’ license (that is NOT expired) or other form of photo ID with their address in Idaho, 3) establish a new account on the Workforce Development Council and follow the steps to accept final Launch. The deadline by which seniors are asked to accept their final Launch is May 31st, but seniors will already be done with schoolwork by then, so we hope students will get this process completed by Tuesday, May 26th. Seniors are happily invited to visit with the CCAs in C-36 about Launch or any other such senior-type thing.
Seniors => Things To Do
To all our much loved seniors, don’t take your eyes off the prize. Here are some things you might have to do / get done in the next couple of months:
> Watch watch watch your personal email. You may receive scholarship offers, personal email is where final Launch grant offers are made, there may be important FAFSA notices, and other important communications. So please pay attention to your personal email and respond promptly (or stop by the CCAs with any questions).
> Your driver’s license. Do you turn 18 in the next two months, by early June? If so, you HAVE to renew your license promptly – for all kinds of reasons. Your license expires 5 days after you turn 18, and no one wants you driving around on an expired license. Also, you will need a fully updated license to accept your Idaho Launch grant. Heads up.
> New-student orientation. Whether you are attending a training program or going to two or four years of college, you are expected to attend, and participate in, a new-student orientation. Check your personal email or your institution’s website to find out what the expectations are and sign up. Orientation is usually when you register for your fall classes and where you can meet with folks from financial aid and scholarships. Don't miss this very important next step.
> Launch Grant, Career Pathway Modules. If you applied for the Launch grant, accepted a contingent offer, but have not started (or completed) your four modules on Next Steps Idaho, you need to get those done before you accept your final Launch offer. Stop by the CCAs to see where you stand with your Next Steps modules – many of you have them all done, but a good number of you have to finish them.
> ISU New-Student Orientations. They are well underway, and we hope our ISU-bound seniors will make a point to get oriented soon. The next three (open) orientations are:
May 29
June 9
June 26 (just a couple more after this one)
Go to isu.edu/nso. The longer you wait, the less time you will have to get your questions answered before classes start, and the fewer class choices you’ll have. Bring unofficial transcripts for your dual credit coursework or request official transcripts be sent. Keep reading.
> Transcripts for Dual Credit. If you took any classes for dual credit, please request official transcripts be sent to the program / college of your choice. Even if you are in dual credit right now, we can request transcripts be sent after grades post. And if you plan to defer, best to request transcripts now. You will go to the National Clearinghouse website, you’ll need a credit or debit card, you should know your Social Security number, and you might need your ID number for the school or college. The CCAs are glad to help with this process (through which you get college credit – gives you a huge leg up).
> Dual Credit, Part II / Advanced Opportunities – All seniors need to check the Profile in Advanced Opportunities (A.O.). Be sure you have used a personal email for A.O. If you have used a school email, change it to your personal one. Access to your Advanced Opportunities (and there is lots of good information there) will vanish within days of graduation if you are using a school email.
> College of Technology. If you plan to attend Idaho State’s College of Technology, please know that you are expected to sit with an advisor for your program before you can be fully admitted. The CCAs can help you reach out to contact them, or you can call 208-282-2622 (Student Services) to arrange an advisor appointment.
> Final High School Transcript. You will pick up your Highland diploma the week after graduation and we’ll ask where you want your final transcript sent. College, training, apprenticeships will all want one, but we want to strongly encourage to have one sent to yourself and your personal email. You never know when you might want or need one, so get one now before you have to pay.
> Deferral. Talk to the CCAs about what you need to do to defer your admission or scholarships if you will be deferring the start of college or training for any reason..
Be patient with the CCAs, they’re juggling a bunch of chainsaws, but are happy to help all students (as I type, there are a couple of underclassmen who are creating ALEKS accounts and applying for dual enrollment with ISU). Be careful out there, everyone.
All good cheer,
Alice & Sarah
