HIGHLAND MAKE-A-WISH CALENDAR, ETC
Highland Make-A-Wish week is right before Spring Break, March 16-19. For those of you who are new to Highland, each year we work with the Idaho Make-A-Wish program to sponsor a child and present a check to the Make-A-Wish representative and the child's family during an assembly held here at Highland. We fundraise for several months with the goal donating $10,000. One of the big events that we plan is Highland Idol. It is set up like American Idol with HHS students auditioning during the lunch hours (March 11-13). The semi-finals are then held on Monday, March 16 at 7pm in the gym and the finals will be at the assembly on March 19 during school hours.
Student Government is really trying to find ways to get more participation at the semi-finals since the audience vote allows one participant to make it automatically to the finals. We encourage all students and their families to come support this event. We are hoping Lily, our Make-A-Wish recipient, and her family will be able to come and it would be great if we could fill the gym that night. We will be having pizza and some raffle items for those who attend. I am attaching info about Lily and the Make-A-Wish calendar.
Here are the ways that you and your students can participate:
1. Purchase raffle tickets $1 each for a variety of gift baskets worth approximately $300-$400 each.
2. Purchase a Make-A-Wish t-shirt $10 each.
3. Get a team together for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament: $5 per person with 3-4 people per team.
4. Attend semi-finals and vote for your favorite contestant by donating money to them.
5. Donate.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please reach out to Mrs. Coverdell Student Leadership Advisor.
Thank you for all of your support.

College Career Advisors
Dear Highland Students & Families,
My tulips are peeking up and the crocuses (croci, sp?) were in full bloom on Saturday. Gadzooks. Too soon, too soon! Save yourself for finals, I wanted to tell them.
What we’ll tell you is we hope students will put their best effort and energy into their finals and end-of-trimester work. Always finish strong.
Here are a couple of things to consider as we look toward the start of Tri 3 and all the excitement of the end of the year.
Senior All Day Drop In? Check!
Senior All Day Drop In last week went very well and we have the sense it was helpful to students and families. We may have hit on a formula going forward. We are grateful to the seniors and families who came out and to:
> Idaho State Financial Aid & Scholarships
> TRiO
> Idaho State Bengal Bridge
We are fortunate to have such great educational colleagues.
Contingent Launch Offers Made – Deadline is March 6th
The state of Idaho extended a second round of contingent offers for the Launch grant to seniors (by email) who applied for Launch grants (in the last couple of months). Launch provides $4,000 / year for two years ($8,000!). Students need to log into their Scholarship Idaho account and click on the red Action Required button. The hard deadline to accept this is this Friday, March 6th (we don’t have school that day). There are a number of contract terms to acknowledge and then students can hit the “Accept” button. This is a terrific funding opportunity and we want to be sure students take the action required. The CCAs have sent notes to each student who has received a contingent Launch offer. If you plan to attend college out of state or will be taking a gap year, we ask students to Decline the Launch grant (and then the money can go to another student). The deadline to accept or decline Launch is Friday, March 6th.
Field Trip to Paul Mitchell in Rexburg, Tues., March 10th
On Higher Ed + Morning, Nathan Layne was one of our presenters. If students are interested in Paul Mitchell as a training provider, the school district has organized a field trip to Paul Mitchell in Rexburg on Tuesday, March 10th. Read more in the Google classrooms. Students must be in good academic standing in terms of grades and attendance, and they need to see the CCAs in C-36 to sign up and obtain a permission slip.
Lots going on, so we’ll leave it there. Godspeed, student friends. Get good sleep before your finals and prepare well.

HIGHLAND ATTENDANCE
Attendance is crucial for academic success. Please make attendance a priority.
Student attendance is essential for student success in school. However, we do understand that there are sometimes reasons a student cannot attend in person, but is still able to work virtually. In these situations students can request to work virtually if they meet the criteria. This is not a request for approval for long-term online work, but it is available to students who may need to miss some school days for personal reasons.
Virtual Present Requests are pre-arranged at least a full school day or more in advance, there is a process that happens before it is approved, and a criteria a student must meet to be eligible.
The criteria includes:
Student does not have excessive absences and/or tardies.
Student has a C or better in all classes.
The form is completed and approval is granted from teachers and administration prior to the day(s) requested.
Plan in advance, this is not something you do at the last minute. Also, please remember that this Virtual Present Request Form is for Highland only and not PV-TEC. If you have PV-TEC classes you must contact their administration for any questions regarding PV-TEC attendance. Virtual Present Requests during finals will not be approved. Students must make attendance to their finals a priority.
