COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
University of Idaho Visits, February 5th
Seniors, our admissions rep from the University of Idaho will be HERE at school on the morning of Wednesday, February 5th, from 8:30 to 11 am in the CCA pod, C-36. If you are interested in the U of I, this is the perfect chance to get your questions answered, learn about institutional scholarship money, even make a commitment to enroll. We are very fortunate to have college personnel visit us at school, so please make a plan to visit, but you have to have teacher permission first.
Seniors Get Stuff Done Morning – Tues., February 11
Seniors are juggling a lot of chainsaws, so we want to offer help . . . and breakfast! It will be a morning to get stuff done. The CCAs will be serving waffles and offering help and support during the 1st hour on February 11th (8:30 to 9:45 am) while the underclassmen are doing their academic planning. It is an opportunity to sit and: complete (or start) your FAFSA, apply to scholarships, finish your Next Steps modules, draft up a resume, write scholarship essays – you name it. As an invaluable bonus, Idaho State admissions and Bengal Bridge will also be with us to answer questions and provide some counsel and direction. Please plan to join us for good food, helpful people, and the satisfaction of ticking items off your to-do list.
Idaho State Admissions Here, Wed., February 19th
For those seniors – especially our early grads completing coursework at the end of this month – who have Idaho State University in their sights, ISU admissions will be here all morning on Wednesday, February 19th, from 8:30 to 12:30. Bianca, our admissions rep, will be able to answer questions, assist and guide, and help students plan and prepare to enroll. Students will need to claim their ISU credentials, know how to navigate MyISU, find the ISU scholarship webpage, and sign up for a new-student orientation. It will be so nice to get those things figured out and see the future is both bright and clear. Plan to visit, but students must have teacher permission before they stop by.
Second Round Launch Offers, Deadline is Friday, Feb. 7th
If you / your student applied for a Launch grant, a second round of contingent offers was made a week ago and the deadline to accept (or decline) is Friday, February 7th. Students need to log in to Scholarship Idaho, confirm their program and institution and then accept the terms . . . or decline the offer (which is fine, that way the money can go to another student). Check your personal email. The Launch grant offers up to $8,000 total dollars ($4,000 / year) for training, college programs, or career technical education in Idaho. The CCAs can assist if you have changed your program or institution. Don’t leave that money on the table!
Fearless Future Scholarship for Highland Students Only !Â
We are pleased to announce the Fearless Future Scholarship that provides a $1,000 scholarship just for Highland students, and which can be used for training, college, career technical education. All that’s required is a 60-second video uploaded to the Senior Google classroom (as an assignment) that answers two questions found in the assignment. Easy! Deadline is Monday, March 17th. Go to the Fearless Future Scholarship assignment in the Senior Google classroom and start creating. If you have any questions, stop by and ask the CCAs in C-36.
Do. Your. FAFSA.
Highland people, we cannot say it enough: Do. Your. FAFSA. Even if you have been offered a Launch grant (which does not need the FAFSA), completion of the FAFSA is required for the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship and for many national and institutional scholarships. After a glitchy first year, the FAFSA seems to be running quite smoothly and it is easy. Please keep in mind that the FAFSA is not a scholarship – it is an assessment of a family’s ability to contribute to the cost of a college education or training. It will be to your benefit to get it done so you can be considered for all kinds of scholarships. Please . . . just do it. Let the CCAs know if you have any questions or if you need any help.
February is here -- the shortest month, but one that requires lots of student attention and care. Strap in and let the CCAs be helpful.
Your friendly neighborhood CCAs,
Alice Rowe
