HIGHLAND MAKE-A-WISH
Every spring Highland partners with Make-A-Wish to sponsor someone. This year we are sponsoring Ryanne. Ryanne, an optimistic and upbeat senior who loves to dance and cheer, plans to graduate with a 4.0 and try out for a nationally ranked college dance team. Due to a serious brain tumor, her senior year has been turned upside down as she now has to balance her plans for graduating on time with the difficulty of undergoing regular treatment. Ryanne’ s wish is to go to Hawaii with her sister for some relaxing time in the sun. Highland High School is sponsoring Ryanne and is starting our fundraising efforts with a Dash for Cash at the basketball games on Jan 15 and 16. Please bring your “cash” to donate during halftime of each of these home games. Venmo will also be accepted. If you would just like to donate, you can Venmo @Highland-Activities and memo that it is for Make-A-Wish. Thank you for your support.

COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
FAFSA Night Tomorrow, Tues., Jan. 14, starting at 6 pm ! ! !
Highland will host its second FAFSA Night tomorrow night, Tuesday, January 14th. We will begin at 6 pm and have the invaluable assistance of college financial aid professionals and other college and Highland staff. Come prepared please. Please bring:
> This will work best and easiest if the student and parent / guardian attend together.
> Student and parent / guardian will need to have established FSA IDs.
> Student and parent / guardian will need fully charged cell phones.
> Student will need a fully charged ChromeBook; parent / guardian can bring a personal device (guest wifi will be available).
> You might want to bring W-2s for 2023; hopefully you won’t need them. If the parent / guardian owns a farm or ranch, is self-employed, owns a business, or derives significant income from investments, you might want to bring your tax documents from 2023.
As before, pizza, beverages, and sides will be provided and we will be drawing for door prizes. Don't miss it.
Launch Grant Contingent Offers – MUST Accept by Jan. 24th
Seniors, if you applied for a Launch grant on Scholarship Idaho, you may have received an email over the holiday break asking you to accept or decline your contingent Launch grant offer. Did you check your personal email over the break? Please look to see if you got such an email and, if so, take action. Students often have questions: What if I want to pursue a different major? What if I want to go out of state, but I’m not sure. What if I am going on a mission? What if I do nothing? Please visit the CCAs with these and other questions. The January 24th deadline is a hard one. Ask the CCAs if you have any questions. Also, remember that students need to complete the four modules on the Career Pathway Plan (on the Next Steps website) before your Launch monies will be released. Don’t procrastinate in getting those modules done. The Launch grant is a great financial opportunity and we don’t want anyone to miss out.
Scholarship Season
The CCAs want to help seniors apply for scholarships. These next few months – January to early April – are critical in applying for institutional scholarships. Apply apply apply, and then in April and May students can weigh their acceptances and financial aid offers to find the training program or school that will work best for them. Many scholarships will require the FAFSA, which is why we encourage everyone to complete and submit one. In addition to institutional scholarships, we will announce opportunities that come over the transom. Stop by the CCAs with any questions or to sit with us to focus on scholarship applications.
It is already mid-term week for Tri 2. How did that happen? I’m telling you, once the calendar turns to a new year, the rest of the school year will zip by. Strap in, mark your calendars for various events and deadlines, and pay attention. Opportunities are won, or lost, when you do or don’t pay attention.
