TRIMESTER 1 2024-25
CALENDARS
These calendars are continually updated and provide all of the important academic and athletic/activities dates for the school year. Please look at them regularly for questions about calendar items.Â
October 28-November 2, 2024
Highland Parent, Student, and Ram Supporter,
Students who have signed up will take the ASVAB this Wednesday, 10/30/24 in the Media Center.Â
This is a reminder that students should not wear anything on Thursday, 10/31/24, that is distracting to the learning environment or inappropriate. Also, students are not allowed to wear masks or paint their faces. Â
This Sunday is Daylight Savings. Please set your clocks back 1 hour Saturday night. An extra hour of sleep...yippee!Â
Students do not have school on Tuesday November 5th, Election Day. Teachers will be participating in professional development this day.
After the broken pipe we dealt with last week, we are still waiting to see when and if we will be able to use our gym as the floor had quite a bit of water on it and may have suffered some damage. This is extremely unfortunate, especially for our PE classes and as we head into basketball season. We are unsure of what the final results will be, but we will keep everyone updated as things progress. Â
EXTRACURRICULARS'
Highland Volleyball had a great season that ended this week at the district tournament. Highland Girls Soccer also had a great season losing 2 overtime games, 1 was a shootout, at the state tournament. Great job to both of these programs, their players and coaches.Â
Highland Swim Districts
Highland Swim competes this Saturday 11/2/24 in districts to see who qualifies for state at the Idaho Falls Aquatic Complex.
Highland Varsity Football State Playoffs
Highland Varsity Football plays in the state playoffs at Middleton High School on Friday, 11/1/24, at 7pm.Â
Highland Cross Country District Champs and State
Highland Girls and Boys Cross Country were crowned district champions this last week and this week are headed to state at Eagle Island State Park in Eagle, ID.Â

HIGHLAND KEY CLUB: UNICEF DRIVE
Last chance to donate to the Highland Key Club UNICEF Drive at Highland High School. Students can donate money in their 4th period class. The last day to donate is 10/31/24. UNICEF stands for the United Nations Children's Fund. It works to protect the rights of children and adolescents, and to help them survive, thrive, and reach their full potential. UNICEF provides vaccines, supports child nutrition, and works to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
FSA ID (Creation) Night – Wed., Nov. 6th, from 6 to 8 pm
Senior students and parent / guardians!! It is time to get ready for FAFSA. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is completed and submitted to help students qualify for federal grants and loans, and is often required for all kinds of scholarships, including the state of Idaho academic scholarships. We strongly encourage students and families to complete and submit the FAFSA early (early-ish) in the senior year. The FAFSA will not open until December, but a critical first step is creation of the FSA ID. On Wednesday, Nov. 6th, we will get guidance and information from experts on college financial aid, college scholarships, and military options to obtain education and training. Pizza and snacks will be served. Please DO join us on November 6th: we will be in Highland’s library from 6 to 8 pm that night. See attached flyer with things to bring / how to prepare.

Paul Mitchell Here – Thurs., October 31st
Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology will visit Highland on Thursday, October 31st, during the 3rd hour. We will gather in Ms. Plato’s room, B-18. Students need teacher permission – first – to be there.
Utah State Application Fee Waiver
Utah State University is offering a waiver that will pay half the cost of an application (which is $50).Â
Go to: https://www.usu.edu/admissions/apply/
Highland seniors fall under the “First Year” category. When you get to the end of the application, and an application fee / credit card is asked for, enter Idaho24, apply the waiver, and the final cost should be $25. But get after it! The fee waiver is only good until November 5th (soon!).
University of Utah & CSI Visit on Mon., Nov. 4th
Monday, November 4th, is a big day for school visits: both University of Utah and the College of Southern Idaho will be here:
University of Utah arrives at 10:15 am
College of Southern Idaho will be here during 5th hour, starting at 1:44 pm
Both college visits will be in the CCA area, C-36.
Students must have teacher permission – first – before you can be there.
Lewis-Clark State College Discover Days – Nov. 7 & 8
Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston (the state college / university with the lowest tuition and hundreds of programs) will have a weekend for prospective students on Thursday and Friday, November 7th and 8th. To learn more about Lewis-Clark State College, go to:

Apply Idaho Day – Hundreds Applied
Last Wednesday, October 16th, we followed up a very successful Portneuf Valley College / Life Fair with a very successful Apply Idaho Day. According to a database maintained by the state of Idaho, 62 percent of Highland’s seniors have already completed Apply Idaho – which equates to more than 200 students. Impressive! We still have to identify the students who don’t have Government this trimester or who were absent that day, but we are well begun to have students apply to college or career-technical training / education. And we likewise encouraged a couple of hundred students to complete Scholarship Idaho (but, alas, no data for that platform yet). Well done, students.
