COLLEGE & CAREER ADVISORS
Senior Celebration – Tuesday, May 13th, 8:45 am
Seniors, Families and Fans of Seniors, it is time again for our Senior Celebration Assembly. All senior supporters are invited to join us. It will begin at the start of first hour that day (8:32 am) and should wrap in about 45 minutes or an hour. Seniors wear their caps and gowns, can wear a decorated cap and cultural or family tokens (not allowed on graduation day), and can sit with their friends. We recognize and applaud all our seniors on this occasion; it is truly a celebration. There will be a reception in the small gym with light refreshments and opportunities for photos after the assembly. In case the weather is uncooperative, the event will happen in the small gym. Please join us.
Final Launch Offers – Accept Them by May 16th
Seniors who applied for Idaho Launch and who received contingent offers that they accepted, received their final Launch offers on April 25th by email from Launch and the Workforce Development Council. If you accepted your contingent offer, we assume you will want to accept your final Launch offer. The deadline to accept final Launch offers is Friday, May 16th. There are a number of steps to complete to get Launch all tucked away. Seniors can follow the steps at home or can visit the CCAs who will be glad to walk students through the process. Pay attention to email, deadlines, and things to do so that your Launch money does not float away.
Order Transcripts for Dual Credit
Seniors who earned dual credit for their coursework will need to order and pay for official transcripts and have them sent wherever they intend to enroll. Highland offers dual credit through Idaho State University, College of Western Idaho, and College of Southern Idaho. If a student plans to attend Idaho State, he or she is all set; ISU already has an academic record for you. Otherwise, the CCAs will help students order and pay for dual credit transcripts. Seniors will need a debit or credit card and will need to know their full Social Security number. Visit the CCAs in C-36.
Seniors: Decide
Dear Seniors, do have a decision or decisions to make? As hard as it is to have adulthood look you square in the face, it will feel good to decide and then chart your course. Have any questions about decisions, options, the future? Stop by and visit the CCAs.
Need a Resume?
Students in any class: are you headed into the workforce for the summer or after graduation? Are you applying for a summer internship or work experience? If you don’t have a resume, the CCAs will be glad to help you draft one up.Â
Juniors – Good for Scholarships. Take the ACT.
Junior students, here’s a thought. You took the SATs in April. You can use your state Advanced Opportunities money for an ACT test. If you know that you will rely on scholarship money to pay for college, the most generous scholarships go to students who 1) have a really strong academic record, and 2) lights-out college entrance exam scores. Take the ACT this coming summer, pay for it in advance, bring us your email confirmation receipt when we return to school, and we will get you reimbursed. Prep for the ACT over the summer, when you don’t have other academics competing for your attention, and it should work out for you. Idaho State University is a testing site for the ACT, but they have a limited number of seats, so sign up soon if this is your plan. There are three upcoming summer / early fall test dates:
June 14
July 12
September 6
Go to act.org to register. You only have to answer the registration questions that are marks “required.”
We are headed toward a period of stress and deadlines and honor and happiness. We are feeling all the feels – and know this makes us human.
Your friendly neighborhood CCAs,
Alice Rowe
Sarah May Clarkson
