TFI 2.9 INTERVENTIONS: Professional Development

A written process is followed for teaching all relevant staff how to refer students and implement each Tier 2 intervention that is in place.

Systems support the accurate and durable implementation of practices by staff, the efficient use of data for decision-making, and achievement of outcomes. Staff are trained to prevent many student behavior problems as well as to deal with disruptive behaviors in a proactive and positive manner. Systems provide the procedures and infrastructure to support and maintain new evidence-based practices.

TFI 2.9 Big Ideas

In element, TFI 2.9, the Tier 2 Team will create a process to ensure that each year all staff receive training on how to nominate a student for Tier 2 along with an overview of each Tier 2 intervention. Additionally the Tier 2 Team must ensure that relevant staff are taught and coached on how to implement the pieces of the intervention they are responsible for.

Action planning includes: For each Tier 2 Intervention identified in 2.5 - Creating whole staff Intervention Overview PD, Meeting with the PD Team to schedule time on the calendar, Creating trainings for teachers (who have students in the intervention) and facilitators, Creating booster trainings and/or coaching sessions for teachers and facilitators

At Tier 2, school personnel need effective professional learning which is research-based, consistent, ongoing, convenient, relevant, and differentiated. Access to training, practice, feedback, and coaching are also important.

Training - Staff Nomination (Whole Staff)

During TFI 2.4 the Tier 2 Team adopted a Nomination Form. During this time the Tier 2 Team also created a process to ensure access to the forms and a timely response back from the Tier 2 Team once the nomination was submitted.

In TFI 2.9 the Tier 2 Team must make sure that all staff are trained on the processes created in TFI 2.4, such as:

How do staff, students & caregivers access the nomination form?

Who do they contact for questions and/or assistance with the nomination process?

Once completed where is the nomination form submitted?

How is the Tier 2 Team notified when there is a new nomination?

How will the Tier 2 Team notify the referring person the request has been received (3 days)?

This training can take place during the whole staff Tier 2 Intervention Overview training, or at a designated time during staff Professional Development.

The task of the Tier 2 team is to develop the training and meet with the PD Team to ensure it time is on the calendar each year for this topic.
