What you REALLY need to know about mitosis vs meiosis:
- Mitosis makes TWO exact copies (with a minor percentage error during DNA replication)
- Cells are Diploid (two copies of each chromosome ... in humans this is 46 in total)
- Meiosis uses Crossing-Over to increase genetic variation just before the first cell division starts
- Meiosis makes FOUR cells
- These four cells are Haploid (one copy of each chromosome ... in humans this is 23 in total)
- Meiosis is used to make gametes (reproductive cells like sperm, eggs, pollen etc.)
- Mitosis is used for growth and cell repair (mitosis is in your toes)
