MEC 2030 Lubrication & Cooling
This module is separated into two components:
Oils used to lubricate the moving parts in the engine and chassis
Methods for cooling moving parts in the engine and chasis
The cooling system is a closed system that circulates fluid through the componnents that get hot due to friction from moving parts. This fluid moves to a radiator that has cooler air passing through it to cool the fluids down.
In addition to pumping fluid, engineers use different materials to dissapate heat from large metal objects.
The lubrication system serves to help mantain a space between moving parts while absorbing excess thermal energy (heat).
In an engine them main parts include:
oil pan
pick up tube
oil pump
oil filter
galleries leading to places that need lubrication
Once oil reaches the top of the engine, gravity and a series of galleries allow the oil to flow back down to the oil pan.
