Peak Elevation

The subject of Peak Elevation is the bark lines that are shown on a tree, and the setting of this is in the small patch of woods between the high school and Morse Street. This photo was taken with my Iphone camera, getting the lens as close as I could to the bark, to create this specific perspective I was going for. I focused the lens as best I could on the bark directly in front of it to capture the small details. After the photo was taken, I edited it using Preview changing things like the exposure, darkness, and saturation. I chose to take this specific photograph because I saw the deep grooves in the bark with all the texture, and I thought it would be interesting to capture a length of the tree. The specific elements and principles I used in this photo are color, texture, and emphasis. This image is composed very centrally and balanced, with the focus directed towards the center of the photo.

The composition rule and techniques that were used in this photo are formal balance since it is very central and not weighted to one side, selective focus since the image focus on one main piece of bark and blurs most of the rest, and angle up since the photo is looking up the tree. My project evolved because I originally messed around with where the photo was focused, also when I edited it in preview, I brought out some more colors to make the photo intriguing.

The meaning behind this photo is that connections between things in nature, if looked at close enough. For me, this photo reminded me a lot of a mountain range with all of the orange, muddy rivers winding through it. I can relate to this photo because I enjoy going on hikes and seeing things for so far up, taking it all in, so I thought it was interesting how a mountain range could be recreated. On such a small scale as well... but nature repeats itself I guess. If my photo could be made any stronger, I think I would have included a bit more bark that was actually in focus, instead of having such a small area.
