Donate Life

(Not Actual Submission)

The subject of my creation is a heart with the words "Organ & Tissue Donation" on a banner. There is no setting, but in the background there is almost like the graph of a heart monitor that use see in hospitals. This artwork was made using the pointillism technique, and all I used were some brightly colored fined sharpies: red, blue, purple, orange, yellow. Also, after all of the dots were done I wrote the phrase in cursive. I chose to create this artwork because I saw my sister doing a similar thing with lungs a few years ago, and I liked the way it looked, and added the bright colors to make this project seem a bit happier of a topic. Some elements and principles that I used in this were: color, value, texture, and balance.

I don't know what the composition rules or techniques are, so if I did use them then they are somewhere in there. My project evolved because originally I was going to do the heart in black and white, but then I found my sister's colored pens, so I decided to do it in color. Then, since the background was looking a little plain, I took the suggestion to put the heart beat line behind the heart.

The meaning behind the artwork is to create something that will encourage new "licensees" to sign up to donate their organs if something bad ever happened to them, to give someone else an opportunity to live. This project relates to my life because at some point soon I will have to decide wether or not I want to check this box, when I sign my license. My artwork could be stronger if I added a background instead of leaving a bunch of white space.
