The subject of this glass creation is a fish that is swimming in the ocean. This work was made by using the fused glass kit which I started with a 4x4 inch square square of dark blue glass, I then looked through all of the pieces and got the shape of a fish that I liked. Finally, I glued those pieces down and began to fill in the space around it with other pieces of glass. I chose to create this specific artwork because I wanted to do fish for the rest of my projects and I settled on this after finding different pieces of glass. The specific elements and principles of design that I used in this sculpture are shape, color, balance, and space. This project is composed very evenly since the fish is centered in the glass.
The composition rules and techniques I used in this are formal balance since the fish is center in the piece of glass and grouping since the pieces of glass are all grouped together to create the image. My project evolved because originally I wasn't even going to do a fused glass artwork, but my other project I was working on didn't turn out as well, so I decided to do this. Also, this evolved because I worked on it as I went so the project was always evolving.
The meaning behind this artwork is that I was able to try out a new technique that I had never done before, so it was interesting to do so. his project relates to my life because I enjoy the ocean and all of the sea life in it, which is captured in this fused glass piece. If my artwork could be stronger, I think I would have used smaller pieces of glass to make up the sculpture so that more detail could be captured in it.
