Wire Sculpture

The subject of my creation is a tiger, this sculpture does not have a setting because it on the white background. This project was made by bending both .28 gauge and .18 gauge wire and holding it together with hooks at the ends of the wires, and crimping them together. I chose to create this artwork because I was looking around my house, and my mom reminded me that we had this bronze tiger, so I went with it. The elements and principles that I used in this project were line, form, and contrast. This project is composed very balanced since it is able to stand on its own, and there are different values in the thicknesses of wire, it also is very clean in all of the connected joints.

The composition rules and techniques that I used were only formal balance since it is able to stand up. My project evolved because originally I only had the .18 gauge wire as the general form, then I decided that I could add more details and support to the sculpture with .28 gauge wire: I went through connecting all the wires together. Also, I was told more detail could be captured in the face, so I added most of the face of the tiger.

The story behind this tiger, which the sculpture originated from, is that my grandfather had bought it on one of his trips to china, and some how my family managed to end up with it. So making this sculpture of something that he brought back from his many trips, relates it to my life. If I could revise this sculpture to make it stronger, I would add even more details with the .28 gauge wire to fully flesh out the shape of the tiger, filling in the empty space more.
