Food projects
Students are require to research in order to select a recipe of Spanish cultural background
that matches the students cooking abilities, that is relatively inexpensive and easy to transport.
Students must have the recipe approved by the teacher.
Students must cook a meal with SAMPLE size bites for each student in their class.
Procedures:
Teacher must assign students to bring utensils and in charged of clean up. Big trash cans must be available for the activity. Students must bring serving spoon of their own dish. Food must be pre-cut (no sharp knife brought to school).
Prefer to bring dish in plastic containers in case need to warm up in a microwave at school. Ice machines are at school, but a ice container is required and someone to pick up ice for the activity. Class behavior will dictate if an individual class is ready for this project. It requires a team effort in order to be a success.
Students must write in Spanish:
Level 1: translate the ingredients and describe the food in Spanish
Level 2: must translate ingredients and cooking instructions
Level 3: Must translate recipe, instruction, describe the food and present in Spanish to the class.
Reflection of activity:
Student will taste all the dishes in order to compare/contrast to American food/students culture.
Students will write their opinion of their experience mentioning the best and worse food and justify it.
