Message from the President

Reflections from President Dr. Michael Anthony

During my time at Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC), I came across this "poem" of sorts. While I've seen this attributed to no one, William Purkey, author of Becoming an Invitational Leader, has also been quoted for saying parts of this:

The Student Is...

The most important person on the campus.

Without students there would be no need for the institution.

Not a cold enrollment statistic but a flesh and blood human being

with feelings and emotions like our own.

Not someone to be tolerated so that we can do our thing.

They are our thing.

Not dependent on us.

Rather, we are dependent on them.

Not an interruption of our work, but the purpose of it.

We are not doing them a favor by serving them.

They are doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so.

A student is a person who brings us his or her desire to learn. It is our job to handle each student in a manner which is beneficial to the student and ourselves.

I like this. I think it represents the core of why all of us got into this business. I wanted to share with you all as we enter this season of thanksgiving and invite you to reflect on the words as I do. As before, I also hope to capture these words prominently on our campus to affirm those who choose PSC. This may be similar to what you see in the attached photo from my former One Stop Welcome Center at RCTC. My former Director of Admissions shared with me that "it's finally up!" Better late than never, I say :)
