Hello all,
The fall semester is flying by, but it hasn’t been without outstanding achievements at the college.
Our students continue to represent us positively both in the classroom and on the field. Recently, our dental hygienists went to Andrew High School to speak about the dangers of vaping, men’s soccer earned a trip to the National Tournament, and our speech team earned medals at the Moraine Valley speech competition.
These accomplishments have helped us build momentum as we head toward the holiday season -- by far, my favorite time of year. As happy as I am with our progress, we can and should improve by continuing to work together. Our faculty and staff worked tirelessly to ensure our recent Open House was successful. Let's keep up the excellent work by getting the word out about spring registration and all the great things going on at PSC. We are all ambassadors of the college. Be proud of what we’ve achieved and our relentless efforts to better and strengthen our institution.
I want to reiterate how meaningful relationships are to me. Please feel free to stop by or drop me a line by email if you need to connect or want to say hello. Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and I want all of you to know I’m grateful for all you do to make this a great institution. Let’s finish the semester strong!
Congratulations to our President, Dr. Michael Anthony, who continues to make his mark in higher education. He was honored by his alma mater the University of Louisville during its Alumni Awards.
The Commencement Committee is seeking recommendations for the guest speaker. Commencement speakers are selected to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class while inspiring graduates, their families, our faculty, and other guests. The speaker selections should enhance the ceremonies without deflecting attention from the graduates, whose academic achievements are being recognized. Click the link below to submit your suggestion.
The library has opened up its study rooms to students. Keys can be checked out either from the circulation desk, or reserved online at https://prairiestate.libcal.com/booking/studyrooms in 2-hour blocks. We have a quiet study room open to anyone at any time, and one dedicated to nursing students.

TRIO Programs, Title IX, and First-Year Experience hosted a National First Generation College Celebration, "First Gen Pep Rally," to celebrate National First Generation College Celebration Day, which was on November 8. The date was chosen to honor the anniversary of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Many colleges and universities celebrate this day in various capacities; lunch and learns, workshops, programming on first-generation college success. Thanks to all the students, staff and faculty, who participated and stopped by.
Prairie State College hosted its fall Open House on Saturday, October 29. The event was a success as potential students came to learn about all of our programs, tour labs, get PSC swag, meet faculty, take pictures with our new mascot Parker and much more. Prizes were given away and the library helped individuals make creepy crafts as pictured below.

PSC ALA officers participated in the Trunk or Treat event at St. Liborius Church in Steger IL. They decorated their trunk in the theme of "The Night Before Christmas (Halloween)," dressed up, and handed out candies to 800+ community members on Thursday, October 27. Also, they assisted the coordinator with setting up and cleaning up. Our students rock!
The International Committee at PSC collaborated with Latinx Outreach and ALA to highlight Mexico for this year's International Tea Event. The event had over 100 attendees, a folkloric dance, a presentation by one of PSC's students, and a La Catrina/El Catrina face-painting contest on stage. After the presentation by Miguel Murillo, guests were invited to delicious atole and tamales for all.
Prairie State College was a Pumpkin Sponsor for the 2022 New Lenox Chamber of Commerce Halloween Fest. Dental Hygiene students invited children to brush spiders off their teeth at their interactive trunk, a great way to demonstrate proper brushing techniques.
Congratulations to Lenita Miller on earning her High School Equivalency credential! Lenita will continue at PSC as she enters the Pharmacy Technician vocational program. The Workforce Equity Initiative Grant and TRIO EOC at Governors State University provided Lenita with assistance.
We wish Lenita the best of luck in the pre-pharmacy program. #startneargofar
Jennifer always goes the extra mile for students, patients, and faculty.
She has created a little corner in her office where students can get a treat to make their day better. Above each candy bowl, she has a little note of encouragement. Recently, Jennifer learned about a patient who did not have a ride to get to their appointment, and she called another patient to ask how she could arrange free public transportation. Jennifer shared this information with the patient so that that patient could make it to her appointment.
The Prairie State Dental Hygiene clinic and program is lucky to have such a dedicated staff member. We would be lost without her.
The Adult Education and Literacy Department offered a Forklift Icaps class consisting of three sections and 25 students for the fall semester. The Adult Education department partnered with Illiana Financial Credit Union and the Workforce Equity Initiative grant to help cover tuition costs for the Forklift 20-hour course. This fall semester was the highest number of students enrolled in our Icaps program.
The Adult Education and Literacy Department successfully completed their fall 2022 registration for the Adult Basic, Adult Secondary, English-as-a-Second-Language, and Spanish HSE programs. Due to a very busy fall semester, over 400 students are registered for the fall 2022 semester.
Congratulations to the Adult Education and Literacy Department! The Adult Education and Literacy Department has partnered with the TRIO EOC grant from Governor State University that can assist with GED testing payments for the students enrolled in our GED prep classes. THE TRIO EOC grant also offers other services to get students into post-secondary education.
A photographer will be on campus from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, November 28, and again on Wednesday, November 30, to take headshots for PSC employees. Prairie State College uses a college-wide work order system for all the staff and faculty. This system allows you to generate a work order request for facility services in the most effective way.
Facilities will receive your request and assign it accordingly to personnel. Our department staff handles many work order requests daily. Please allow 3-5 working days for scheduling and completion. Be specific in your request, i.e., room number, when the work is to occur, and what is to be completed.
Be specific in your event request. The setup date and time and when it needs to be removed.
The actual location of the event with a diagram of the setup.
The number and the type of tables and chairs needed. Please call the Conference Center to schedule your event, as they our responsible for the Master Calendar.
If your requests are put through Schooldude, we have a way to track your request. If changes need to be made to your work request, call x3700 or email pstjacques@prairiestate.edu with those changes.
Facilities personnel are not responsible for entering your work orders as we handle over 10,000 work orders a year. Facilities can better manage your requests through the work order system. Verbal requests directly to staff cannot be honored, as it conflicts with their assigned duties.
