We hope these monthly tidbits get you excited and curious about how data can help us better understand and serve our students! Reach out to Annette Dolph with any data-related questions.
*This fictional student profile was developed by examining student data from FY23 and FY24 and information collected in the SP24 Student Satisfaction Inventory. Each variable was analyzed individually (not in combination), and the resulting characteristic represents the majority value for credit students. Ashley was named based on the most frequently occurring female first name for credit students in the past 5 years.
October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month, highlighting a critical issue that affects people across all backgrounds. On October 17, staff and students wore purple to show support for survivors, reminding them they are not alone. We encourage everyone to continue wearing purple to stand united against domestic violence. If you or someone you know is struggling and needs help, click the link below for resources and support.
On Wednesday, November 6, the PEACE Center hosted a roundtable discussion for staff and students to share their thoughts on the recent political election. This event did not focus on political ideology; instead, it aimed to explore how individuals and our institution can prepare to play meaningful roles and adapt to changes within our communities.
Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed annually on November 20, serving as a call to action and advocacy against the prejudice, discrimination, and violence faced by the transgender community. In 2024, photos and obituaries of transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals who lost their lives were displayed to honor their memory. For additional resources, please visit the link below.
On November 13, TRIO SSS and One Million Degrees (OMD) Scholars visited Northern Illinois University (NIU). Students attended an exclusive TRIO SSS presentation, participated in a scavenger hunt to explore the campus, enjoyed a meal in the dining hall with college students, and attended a college football game. Dr. Desiree Anderson joined Aundrea Wilder, Jennica Rodriguez, and Celeste Garcia on this outing. Many students appreciated the student panel during the TRIO presentation, where NIU students shared insights on adapting to campus life and getting involved in leadership and scholarship opportunities. OMD operates under the PSC PEACE Center.
On October 24, the PEACE Center hosted the second Scholar Development Session for the OMD Scholars. President Dr. Michael Anthony and Vice President of Student Affairs & Diversity Dr. Bernard Little facilitated the session, engaging the 48 OMD scholars with icebreakers and a discussion centered on the theme "Per My Last Email: An Exploration of Identity, Professionalism, and Authenticity."
PSC Athletics honored its sophomore volleyball players and officially kicked off the winter sports season with the annual Pioneer Palooza event. Following the volleyball match, men's and women's basketball competed in 3-point and dunking contests. Those who came out to show support, received pink shirts while supplies lasted.
The PSC volleyball team also filmed a promotional Instagram reel which can be seen at the link below.
Men's and women's soccer hosted a "White Out" event featuring a soccer doubleheader against Harper College. Fans who came out to support our soccer teams received a free white t-shirt.
Men's soccer took down Harper 5-0 while women's soccer won 3-0 over the Hawks. Women's soccer finished the season 7-8-1 and made the postseason for the first time in recent memory while the men (13-4-3) lost to South Suburban in its opening playoff match.
Men's and women's basketball hosted Media Day, during which they took team and promotional photos to use throughout the season. Some shots are below, and you can check out more on the various PSC Athletics social media platforms.
Local media were invited to the Pioneer Fieldhouse to meet this year's teams. Women's basketball is off to a strong 4-2 start, while the men are 2-3.

PSC alum Rebbie Davis was featured in The Hechinger Report, where she shared her experience as a transfer student at Howard University and highlighted the need for colleges to improve the transfer process.
Rebbie described her time at Prairie State College as “incredible.” She thrived in a supportive community of faculty, staff, and peers, which helped her earn a scholarship and successfully transfer to a four-year college to pursue her pre-law journey.
In 2022, Rebbie graduated from PSC and received the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Transfer Scholarship. She is now an English major with a Philosophy minor at Howard University, where she serves as president of the Howard University Writers Guild and vice chair of HU’s Future Law Scholars’ board of directors.

On September 30, staff members supported our PSC students by joining the Foundation for a bonus Denim Day, fresh donuts, and coffee. All in attendance were given the opportunity to sign up/renew for employee giving and add a collector pin for 2025. Every donation, in any amount, makes a difference to PSC scholarship recipients. If you were unable to attend or didn't have the opportunity to complete an employee giving form, visit the Employee Giving section of the Foundation's website to fill out the form and to view the Denim Day calendar. Congratulations to Morgan Hall for winning the Denim Week Pass!
