My name is Daeyonna and ever since I was a kid I always wanted to be a teacher. Also, at a young age I would always be babysitting my siblings, so I feel like that really influence me to want to teach. Plus, when I was younger for the summer, I stayed at my aunt's house with my cousins, and we always played this game called "school". Basically, we play itchy ditchy ice cream to decide who was going to be the teacher. Which is just a song, and we all put too foots in till we had none left. So, it will go "itchy itchy ice cream itchy itchy doo itchy itchy ice cream out goes you". Surprising I was always the last to go out which made me the teacher. So, I would just teacher them how to draw a simply picture and paint. But not too long ago I used to teach lesson plans to 2-5yrs my senior and junior year of high school at a daycare. Which was a real-life changing experience because I felt like a real teacher in this moment also seeing the kids learning just excites me that knowing what I am doing is making a difference.
I know a thing or two about how to create a lesson plan because I did it many times in the past teaching at the daycare, but I may be a little rusty. I also feel like I know how to calm down a kid when they are having a meltdown. I know I am not certified yet but babysitting all the time gave me the power to help calm down kids. I would also like to add that watching super nanny helped me too because that's the type of kids she was dealing with all the time her show. A thing that I could probably teaching my classmate is probably patience. I believe I am very patience with kids which is a great skill. Another thing is I know how to stay calm and professional when under pressure. This is great because students will always try to push your last nerve and it's good that you remain calm. Two things I know I could teach my future students is how to express/regulate their emotions and Independence. I know it is important for kids to learn how to release their anger in an appropriate way without hurting other students. Also, students need to know how to communicate with their peers on how they feel, and this will definitely help them in the long run.
I feel like something I need to learn is to slow down when teaching a lesson plan. I get excited when teaching a lesson plan and sometimes I can go too fast. One of my goals are learning to do classroom management for example if a student is being disruptive while teaching the class. I have kind of idea of what to say but I feel like it could use some work. Some teachers prefer to ignore it because they think the kid will eventually stop but that only works a handful of times. Which is why I think it is a good idea to come up with a better solution. Another one of my goals is to become more tech Savy like using Kahoot, Nearpod, etc. I say this because it fun for kids to learn through and I do not really know how to negative any of it. The last things I need to learn is a better understanding of the curriculum, learning theories, and teaching skills.
The Teacher I will become
Out of all the five educational philosophies I see myself teaching in either progressivism or Essentialism. I Feel like progressivism really matches the way I want to teach. I believe that students learn best through experience instead of memorization. As a future teacher I think progressivism really touches on critical thinking and problem solving. But I also like essentialism because that's kind of philosophy of teaching I grew up on. Also, it focuses on academic basics which students will need to know in life. Essentialism gets students ready for SOL's. I feel like both philosophies are very effective. I think as a future teacher I might try to combine both because I am drawn between the two. Essentialism gives student new tools like reading, writing, math and discipline. While progressivism give them the purpose on why the tools matter and how to use them.
I want to be a teacher that my 1st grade teacher was to me. she was a leader, and she always leads with her heart. My first-grade teacher inspired me in some way to teach young students. The way she treated us as her own was with a real genuine connection. I want to become an advocate for equity and inclusion because I feel like every student should be treated equally no matter what race, region, or disability they have. I want to make sure everyone voice is heard in my class so no one will feel left out. I like to see kids be independent even the kids like being independent. When students realize they can do something new as basic as tying their shoes or writing their name on their own excites them.
This image represents what I picture my future self as a teacher. I see myself exploring outside with my student's and learning new things about nature. Exploring outdoors give students the space to share what they already know or discover new things while learning. Also, I feel like being outside is such a breath of fresh air and relaxing. Doing this also gives the students the opportunity to use their gross motor skills. Students will become more aware of taking care of the environment and being outside will teach them to use their imagination.
I believe the purpose of school is to prepare students for the real world and to also help them find who they are and what they want to be. The most important things my students will learn is how to be independent and how to problem solve. I want my student to be expose to experiential learning because I believe students learn by doing. Like having a class pet for example watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly. The students will send the different steps and the process. Or using food to do math problems like "if sally had 5 skittles and you took away two how much does she have left. I feel like students will be very engage because they will be able to eat the candy in the end. Also, if some students do like candy I could do pretzels, goldfish or animal crackers to make it fun for everyone. Another active is I could give students marshmallows and spaghetti sticks and have them build a tower to see which one can hold the most weight.
How I Used AI and My Current Thoughts About It
I used Gemini to help me create my ai image for how I see myself as a future teacher I also used ChatGPT to break down the different educational philosophies to help me narrow down my choice.
"Create an image of a black woman teacher with curly hair and a diverse group of young kids 3–5-year-olds on an adventure exploring and learning and now add school items"
I believe AI like ChatGPT and Gemini can shape student learning through ways like pasting a study guide into AI and asking it create question based on the study guide. I do think AI is a great studying tool when used correctly. Another benefit of AI is that it will help students come up with ideas like “give me topics to talk about in my essay” like that. But I also do believe that students should not rely on AI because then they are not thinking as much, and they are not coming up with original ideas. Also, I feel like students could abuse the power of AI by using it to cheat. Which will affect their learning path and make it harder for them in the future.

Joshua Eaton: Your page is exemplary in that it's creative, in-depth, polished, and easy to navigate. I enjoy all parts of your About the Author page, and I look forward to learning about supervising children for you since that is a thing I need to learn. I like your usage of Micky Mouse and other cartoon characters.
Tiffany Mapp- Hello Daeyonna, I really enjoyed reading about your journey and how your early experiences with babysitting and playing school influenced your passion for teaching. I think it's inspiring that you already had the opportunity to create lesson plans and work in a daycare... it shows you're gaining hands-on experience that will be valuable in your future classroom. I also admire how you mentioned patience and staying calm as strengths, because those are essential skills for working in a classroom with young children. Your goals of improving classroom management and incorporating technology like Kahoot show that you are committed to growth as an educator.
Hsin Tzu Mighall : Hi Daeyonna, I was drawn to your dora header, I like your layout for the author page. I can feel your passion for teaching and your familiarity with education (especially lesson planning and the time you stayed in daycare). Due to those experience, when you do the assignments or take classes, you can resonate to your real life experience and not only know what's actually work to you and also apply what you learn in class to your classroom. Staying calm and professional when under pressure especially kids are being naughty is so important to teacher, you already are able to stay calm in chaos, I believe you can doing well on class management. I can't agree you more in your "the teacher I will become". I also believe that students learn best through experience instead of memorization. Through experience or experiment they will already feel easier to memorize. When it comes to the math and caterpillar part it's too true. When I was taking physic, chemical and biology classes in Taiwan, we can only learn it from textbook most of time, I think physics only less than five times teacher brought things to display to us (but students can only watch). And chemistry and biology only learning through pictures and textbook, therefore, I have no ideas what I learned and how I learned before...when I look at chemistry test paper which 50 questions multiple choice, I only either guess or feel sleepy right away lmao. (But probably depends on the school, some better, more expensive school will experiment part) This is also why I want to learn education in US.
