Welcome back to virtual Exploring Tech
Times are difficult but we will try to move forward with some creativity and thought.
For this project you will need to create a page for your portfolio under hard tech and call it Roller Coaster. Your challenge is to create a roller coaster from items found around your house to meet the requirements of the project as shown below. it is outlined but you can use your own creativity and materials you have access to. Be creative. You will have a few weeks to complete your coaster and post a video of it in action on your website. It says on the assignment google classroom but put the video on your site.
If you have any questions you can email me but it is a project that is open to your imagination and resources available. Have fun with it and be creative.
Here is the link to the project.
April 27 - May 8
Photography Unit
In this unit I would like you explore the functions of your phone camera or digital camera. Look at different setting that will allow you to take pictures laid out in the photo composition assignment. Play with backgrounds, lighting, etc... to create interesting, memorable shots. you can review the information on the photography page on the tij site. you will not be doing the selfie assignment yet. Focus on the photography composition assignment in the link below. There are a few rules to help guide you but they are more guidelines as art takes many forms.
Play with your camera settings as far as light and focus. You will want to turn off the auto focus and see how your photo differ being able to select areas to highlight.
There are different shots required for the composition assignment. Make sure you read the assignment and get all the required shots. You can take as many pictures as you like and chose you best shot(s) to submit in your slideshow for each category.
The keys to this assignment are to get good shots for each category and to be as creative as possible. Things are starting to grow outside and color is coming back to the world as spring takes ahold. Get some fresh air while remaining safe and observing Ottawa Public Health regulations

Photo Editing unit
In this unit you will be exploring photo editing software. Usually in the lab we would be using Photoshop but in this case we will be using Photopea. Photopea is a free online photo editing software. It is very similar to Photoshop with a few minor differences.
You will be able to follow the tutorials in the Photoshop Unit. The tools are pretty much the same however the locations to certain tools may vary slightly. The basics are the same as in you will be working in layers, naming layers, working with drawing tools, gradients, etc...
Visit the photoshop link above and read over the information on Pixels, cropping and resizing, and layers to understand how the software registers information and how it is separated into layers to allow editing of certain aspects of an image or group of images.
With each assignment, there are notes and videos that will help guide you through the process.
The first project you will be doing is the emoji project. There are two videos that go with the emoji project. You will follow the parameters of the video to create the emoji and will also do one of your own (maybe a self portrait or one that demonstrates an emotion of some sort. So for this assignment you will be posting a min of two emojis on your portfolio.
The second project you will be doing is the Personal logo assignment .
USE THIS VIDEO TO ASSIST YOU AS IT IS DONE IN PHOTOPEA thanks to Mr McMillan Personal logo video
The third project you will be doing is the World traveller assignment . You will be placing yourself into a background placing yourself in an interesting place or situation using the same procedure you used in the personal logo assignment.
Unit summative project For this project you will create a magazine cover. The cover will be 8 1/2 x 11 inches. When doing your set up make sure that you change the size of your canvass to inches from pixels. Your magazine will have a title, background, an image (seperate from the background), and text that includes some of the stories that could be found inside your magazine, as well as a barcode or price. The magazine cover can be any magazine you choose to reflect your interests as long as the content is appropriate.
backgrounds, images, and barcodes can be found online. You can insert a picture of yourself on the magazine cover if you wish. You will be using the tools you have learned in the last three assignments such as layering, seperating an image from the background, etc.. Be creative with this project. There are many samples that can be found online to hell you decide your style and give you ideas.

In this unit you will be looking at design software. Google Sketchup is a free 3d design software that can be used to create drawings. It can be a handy tool for design and planning purposes. We used to do this unit as part of hard tech but we now share chromebooks with other classes so we decided to include it as soft tech unit. Originally I wanted to do the audio unit but it will not run on chromebooks.
Check out the sketchup videos part one and two
In this unit you can sign into Sketchup for schools with your google account
