Key stage 3

In years 7 and 8 you will begin to understand engineering concepts. Thinking through complex problems, collaborating with others, communicating human-needs, are all skills you will develop through education. A lot of students may have heard of an engineer and have heard of people who are engineers. However, the word “engineering” is a broad term and covers a wide range of career paths and skills.

Should do

  • Visit the Success at School Engineering page to discover more information about the career

  • Watch What's an engineer? via YouTube to gain some insight about what role of an engineer involves.

  • In Science and Design Technology, ensure that you complete all work to the best of your ability and speak to your teacher about how the skills learnt can apply to engineering.

  • Visit museums such as the London Transport Museum and Museum of Design. These contain excellent exhibits to aid your understanding of engineering as a career.

  • Read the day in a life of profiles to understand what different types of engineering involves.

  • Attend a 'Future Fellows' delivered by our Sixth Form students.

  • Look at Tomorrows Engineers - a website dedicated to everything you need to know. Complete the resources found on the website.
