This is really down to a combination of things, including your own interests, which optional subjects your school allows you to choose, and your future plans.
You’re in the driving seat now, and you’re beginning to shape your own education! This is the first time you can focus on the subjects you like the most and feel you will do well at.
Maths, English and Science are the core subjects everyone must take at GCSE in England.
Science may be split into the three separate sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) or into two combined Science GCSEs.
In addition, all students at Oaks Park study an hour of PSHE to ensure that they are able to have an increased understanding of physical and mental wellbeing, relationships and the wider world.
Core PE also remains a part of your timetable and you take part in activities twice a week. This is important for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
At Oaks Park, students have 4 options to select from. Our aim is to ensure that each student has the opportunity to study a broad and balanced curriculum. Most courses and jobs you might want to apply for in the future require you to have grades between 9 and 4 in a minimum of five subjects.
You will have the option to choose:
A modern foreign language.
A humanity subject like History, Geography, or Religious Studies.
An arts subject like Music, Drama, Art and Design or Media Studies.
A technical subject which enhances digital skills such as Design and Technology or Computer Science.
All students have to do PE in years 9, 10 and 11, but you can also take it as a GCSE option.
