In years 9,10 & 11 you will start planning your career and finding out more about what suits you. This will include your options for study as well as decisions for your next steps after year 11. Accounting is often perceived as an uneventful career by those outside of the industry, but it can actually be one of the most fulfilling - whether you choose to work in the private or public sector.

Should do

  • Visit Unifrog and UCAS to explore how an accounting degree or apprenticeship is structured.

  • Begin to consider work experience within the field of accountancy. Use the advice on the All About Careers website and contact local accountancy firms.

  • Explore the ICAEW website to learn more about accountancy as a profession.

  • Explore the AAT website and consider different routes into accounting and what qualifications are required.

Could do

  • Use Unifrog to take a MOOC in accountancy to ensure your knowledge of this area.

  • Use the Khan Academy website to undertake lessons about accountancy and learn new technical terms to develop your understanding.

  • Dan Wilson's book 'Accounting for Beginners' may be worth reading- it is excellent for providing an overview of accounting in an easy to understand format.
