Tim Wynne made a historic impact on Red River High School athletics throughout his coaching career in tennis. He began his journey at Red River as an assistant boys’ tennis coach under Head Coach Kerry Jaeger with the 1996 State Championship team before eventually taking over as head coach of the girls’ program from 2002 to 2011, a decade defined by unprecedented dominance and excellence. Under Tim’s leadership, the Roughrider girls' tennis team achieved a perfect decade of success, winning both the EDC and State Championships every single year of his tenure. His teams compiled an incredible 164–0 record, a historic streak in North Dakota high school athletics. During that time, his players also claimed 10 state singles titles and 8 state doubles championships, a testament to both the depth and consistency of his program. Tim’s coaching excellence earned him numerous accolades. He was named North Dakota High School Coach of the Year in both 2003 and 2005, and in 2006–07, he received the prestigious NDAPSSA High School Coach of the Year honor. He was also recognized with the NDAPSSA Special Achievement Award in 2011–12 and was a finalist for National High School Coach of the Year in 2010. Alongside his brother, Tom Wynne, Tim also received several distinguished honors in the tennis community, including being named Grand Forks Herald Sportspersons of the Year, receiving the USTA Frank Voigt Award, the Tom Clifford Award in 2015, and being inducted into the USTA Northern Hall of Fame in 2014.
