Chad participated in football and track and field, lettering three times in each sport. Williamson was a physical force on the gridiron, earning All-EDC and All-State honors in 1988 as a tight end. He is tied for 6th all time in touchdown receptions in a season and also 6th in career touchdown receptions.  He won EDC titles in the discus (1987), shot put (1988), and was the ND Shot Put State Champion in 1989.  To this day, he still ranks among the best throwers in school history. To culminate his impressive high school career, he was named the Grand Forks Herald Male Athlete of the Year in 1988-89.
