This is our Blood and Thunder Readers log, where we summarize the chapters we read and find a quote that either shows that Kit Carson is not guilty, or is guilty. I also got an ecxeeds on this assignment because I found many quotes that either proved Kit Carson guilty or innocent, and then made a summary of the chapter as well as why I chose the quote that I did and why it supports my claim that Kit Carson was either guilty or innocent. The goal of this assignment was to lead our Mock Trial, and to have more knowledge about the events that we were going to bring to court. I feel like I used effort the most on this assignment, because even though I really didn't like the book and many of the chapters were long, bo and hard to keep up with, I still did what was expected of me and worked hard to complete what I needed to complete. I also worked so hard because I knew that the information that I would collect would be helpful to me in the Mock Trial.
One of the goals I think of the project was reading blood and thunder, presenting a mock trial, but also putting the learning that we did and the knowledge that we gained from reading blood and thunder in our mock trial. We learned a lot about previous events in history, as well as people in history we maybe did not know a lot about, which we applied in our final project by presenting what we had learned in our Mock Trial. I feel like I grew by not only learning about previous historical events but also how trials work. One of my biggest challenges was trying to brainstorm about what questions I as the witness might be asked during my cross examination, but I also did try as hard as I could. We learned a lot about law and courts, as well as objections, the legal system, attorneys, witnesses, and more. This can be applied in my future, for example if I ever have to go jury duty I will have a better understanding of what is happening and make the right choices. I didn't really learn anything about myself through this exhibition or by completing this project. I would give myself a meets because I feel like I met the standards of the exhibition and performed professionally and respectfully. One goal I might set for myself is always trying to memorize my scripts, but another goal might be to put in some extra work to make sure I feel confident in my work.
On this assignment, we read the story The Gift of Cochise. After we read it, we then wrote a RACES paragraph on one of the three questions above. I chose to answer the questions: Discuss the significance of the ending of "The Gift of Cochise". Is it truly a happy ending? Why or Why not?
I got a meets on this assignment because I wrote a RACES paragraph that met the expectations, and answered the questions that I chose in the correct format.
I feel like I used Refinement the most on this assignment because as first I chose a different question, but I kept mixing it up with the question I ended up choosing. So I picked the question I ended up choosing and actually rewrote it a couple of times until I liked how it sounded and answered the questions fully.
This was one of many mock trial assignments. The first thing that we did on this assignment was to read an article that applied to your role, which I was a witness so I read about tips for a witness. Then I recorded 10 jot dots of tips that I found useful, such as, Work with my attorney, practice direct, tell the truth, etc. Then we wrote a short paragraph about our role and what we were going to do in the mock trial to prove Kit Carson was guilty or innocent. Finally, we answered some questions about blood and thunder which were: After reading Blood and Thunder, what part of the book stood out to you the most, and how did it make you feel? Overall, did the book change or reinforce the way you think about westward expansion and the people affected by it? Explain your answer in 2–3 sentences. I got a meets on this assignment because I did everything that was expected, and filled everything out that I needed to. I also feel like I used Integrity with this assignment because I wasn't there on the day that we did this, but instead of not checking my email or google classroom and not doing it, I looked, found it, and completed it.
