The learning target for this project was, I can write and perform a skit for the main reasons for the fall of the Mayan civilization.
One reason for the fall of the Mayan people is drought. The people could not find enough water because they chopped down too many trees.
In this project I contributed one of the roles that were the reason they were searching for water, I was the kings daughter and needed water urgently. This shows why the Mayan people needed water so badly.
We made a Travel brochure for someone who is visiting there and what they should expect. We told them things like where to visit, the weather, the vegetation and much more.
In this exhibition we created six artifacts total. Each person made two, a rise artifact and a demise artifact. Then we buried it in sand and the parents had to find them with a paint brush. Then we would talk about our artifacts.
Some steps that we took to complete this exhibition are, research, summaries, photos we had to find, sculpting, and painting. Before we started making our artifacts, we started researching a lot about our civilizations, to me this was the incan civilization. Then after we did that, we chose our artifacts then started writing our summaries for our artifacts. After we wrote the summaries we started making the artifacts. I made a kipu which was used to store information, and I also made a bone of an Incan person who died of smallpox. As soon as we were finished making them out of clay we painted them to match our reference photo.
I think I did well presenting the information that I learned. I could have done better, but Overall I think that I did very well.
Some things I created as a choice board is a story about an incan girl who was trying to escape from the Spanish. I also made a photo museum of different things relating to the incan people. I did this with one of my exhibition partners. There were things like, sacrifices, farming, temples, Pizarro, and more.
Some challenges I faced were trying to find out things to say for one of my artifacts, the bone. I tried to say a lot about the Spanish, smallpox, and how it affected people but it was hard to find a lot of information.
One of the habits of heart and mind that I feel like helped me the most was effort. For this project you had to have a lot of effort in making the artifacts, information, presenting, and making all of the side projects. You couldn't just throw something together, you had to work very well to complete this.
Overall I think this exhibition was very fun and exciting. I was very exited when I heard the parents were digging our artifacts up.
Learning Target: I can propose an interview between an Incan ruler and a Spanish Conquistador.
