My confidence poster shows only a small amount of what I'm confident in. One of the strongest things that comes to my mind when I think of confidence is reading. When I read I like to imagine everything about the characters, settings, weather, or anything about the story. I normally like harsh things, realistic fiction, historical fiction, and small amounts of poetry based on what they are about. I used to only read graphic novels but I wanted to challenge myself to start reading bigger books. When I started reading bigger books I tried reading a graphic novel again and I read it in 20 minutes. Another thing I am confident in is writing, every time I write I try to put as many examples of emotion, settings, what characters are doing while they are speaking. I also like more harsh stories. I also am trying to get even better at skiing. I enjoy skiing and love skiing with friends.
My definition of Confidence is being able to understand what you are good at, or what you like and makes you feel confident. Confidence is not feeling doubt in what you're doing, but if so it might be confidence in trying harder to be confident. Confidence is knowing that you can do something or that you will learn or try hard in it.
I am very confident in reading, in fact it is something that I cover a lot and talk a lot about. But instead of always doing reading I found that I am also confident in other things, for example humanities. I understand humanities a lot and always store the information in my mind that I have researched. I have gotten all meets and above on my humanities beside one song writing, not my strong suit.
One example of my confidence growing stronger is my first POL. For me, it was one of the most scary things I have done. Exhibitions are not scary to me anymore, but POL's and TPOL's are much more scary. When I was doing my POL I was nervous, but it made me a little more confident.
Another example of my confidence growing is deciding who I want to be, who I want to hang out with, what I'm interested in. It makes me more confident to know that I'm trying to explore different things, what makes me confident, what doesn't. I have always thought about what i'm interested in, but I never actually explored any options. I might have looked at three or four, but I never tried more.
When you fail you can take that as an opportunity to learn from it and make it better next time. failing is helpful because then you actually learn more about what you did wrong. One personal example, is when I was learning to ride a bike. It was hard and confusing for little me. When I started I was biking down the drive way and I almost got it then I fell into a big wet ditch. But, after falling many times I learned what and what not to do. How to increase and decrease speed, how to use the breaks, and how to steer. It was hard, but each time I fell it taught be something knew and brought be closer and closer to learning how to ride a bike.
Ellie Rathje
I chose Ellie because she inspires me everyday, and is an outgoing person who I love to be around. I'm going to first start of talking about a few things that inspire me and that I like most about Ellie.
Sense of Humor
One of my favorite character traits about Ellie is her sense of Humor, she always makes funny jokes. She also always makes me happy and smile when i'm in a mood. If i'm being honest, every time i'm around Ellie she always has a sense of humor.
Integrity
Ellie also has a lot of integrity. She always tries to do the right thing, even when she might be doing something. She is very aware of her environment and the outdoors. One example is, she knows how harmful plastic can be in the environment so she tries her best to use as little as possible. Another example is, she works as a social worker so you need to have a lot of integrity to do that. When you work in schools you have so many things to do, writing papers, reports, meetings, and even though she might have a lot of work to do but she wants to go home, she might try to get as much work done as possible.
Social Working
While I would never want to be a social worker or work in the schools, I admire that she is. Social working does not seem fun at all but she still does it. A lot of times you have to work extra hard to be a social worker, working with kids, helping kids, talking with parents, teachers, all seems to be a lot. To me it seems like a very busy job. So, If you think about it she is adding so much effort in her daily life all for her job. She always has work to do, like I said, and gets so much work done in a day.
Activities
While Ellie has so many good traits, one of the reasons she has these is the activities she does. One of the things she loves to do is hiking. I don't like hiking that much but I still like that she does it. Another thing she does is, biking. I don't bike a lot but I enjoy it. The one activity she does that I love is paddle boarding. I love going to the lake with her and using the paddle board. We also do a yearly Moab trip. We always camp with some of our close friends, one of them always being Ellie. We always paddle board down the river and do different parts of the Moab daily. This trip without Ellie would probably not be as fun.
Confidence
Everything I've already talked about makes Ellie even more confident than she is every day. Her humor, work, activities, even integrity. She always pushes me, or tries to push me to do different things. Overall, Ellie is an amazing person who I look up to and inspires me everyday. It didn't take me very long to figure out that I was doing Ellie for my significant adult, and i'm glad I did.
