This week students will be identifying informative texts, and explore the purpose and features of this text type. Students will also practise reading quickly and accurately, and to use expression when reading aloud.
This week students will start the week with a Cold write. They will continue to explore narrative writing, focusing on incorporating the use of nouns, pronouns and proper nouns. Students will also have the opportunity to do their own free choice writing.
This week we will continue to investigate Place Value, specifically Rounding and Number lines.
In Spelling this week, we will be focusing on the following:
Reviewing long vowels. Long vowel sounds are where a vowel makes the same sound as the way it's name is pronounced. For instance, the 'a' in the word 'skate' is an example of a long vowel.
Split digraph (bossy ‘e’)
At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:
Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.
Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.
Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.
We will also be focusing on the words woman, home, where. At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:
Child writes the word several times, saying each letter name as he/she writes.
Child writes a sentence using the target word.
In our Grammar lesson, we will be focusing on Pronouns.
** Differentiated learning will be present in each class to cater for all students individual learning requirements.
This week, we will be continuing 'Friendology'!
Friendology teaches children the key skills of relationships and how to navigate conflict with their peers.
Our next lessons are called 'Friend-o-meter' and 'Friendship Fires'
Friend-o-meter will be identifying the difference between healthy & unhealthy friendships, and identify how actions speak louder than words in friendships.
Friendship Fires will be focusing on resolving conflict with a friend and ways we can respond to hurt feelings and misunderstandings.
Please see the image of the 'Friendology 101 Guidelines' we will be using throughout the program.
