STATEMENT OF INTENT- TERM 1 WEEK 10

Learning this Week

READING: (Fluency and Comprehension)

This week we will be making and checking predictions as we read. We will also continue to practise reading fluently.

WRITING: (Narrative)

This week students will have a 'catch up' week and classes will be teaching according to point of need.

MATHS: (Addition)

This week students will be practising their mental strategies for addition problems, specifically doubles and near doubles.

Spelling and Grammar

In Spelling this week, we will be focusing on the following:

Spelling choices for /ū/- ‘ew’, ‘ue’, ‘u_e
Tricky words: really, animal, because

At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:

Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.
Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.
Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

We will also be focusing on the words really, animal, because. At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:

Child writes the word several times, saying each letter name as he/she writes.
Child writes a sentence using the target word.

** Differentiated learning will be present in each class to cater for all students individual learning requirements.

Wellbeing

This week, we will begin to focus on Cyber Safety in the area of 'responsibilty'.

This lesson will focus on recognising some common

behaviours of tricky people online.

We will explain the concept of red flags and green flags to

students: red flags are signs of danger to our safety;

green flags are a sign that it’s safe to continue.

We will be talking to students about the red flags of tricky people that are represented in the poster.

We will also create a list of strategies for staying safe from tricky people online. Strategies may include: playing in private online spaces, having a trusted adult help you check the settings on your games and devices and ask a trusted adult before playing.
