In wellbeing this week, we will continue our Respectful Relationship lessons.
In this week's lesson, we will explore situations that can cause fear or anxiety, and describe coping strategies students can use to help manage their anxiety.
Students will discuss how we all have fears, but we also have coping strategies or things we do to help us manage our strong feelings when we are afraid. For example, hugging a teddy or turning the light on are coping strategies that can help when we are afraid of the dark.
In this lesson it is important that students understand that some coping
strategies or reactions may be unhelpful in one context or situation, although useful in another situation. Therefore, it is important for everyone to have a broad repertoire of coping strategies, and to develop the ability to choose those that are appropriate for the context.
Possible follow up discussion at home:
Questions- What are some things that can cause you fear? What are some coping strategies that work well for you?
