Case Study:

Oil Spill in Singapore 2024

An oil spill on Friday, June 14 has closed beaches around Singapore. Clean-up efforts are still underway, with slicks spreading to the Southern Islands tourist attractions and sighted as far east as the Changi area.

The spill was sparked by Netherlands-flagged dredger Vox Maxima hitting Singapore-flagged bunker vessel Marine Honour at Pasir Panjang Terminal at about 2.20 pm on Friday.

Kingfisher covered in oil in Marina Keppel Bay.

Workers clear the oil slick using plastic bags on Sentosa island's Tanjong Beach in Singapore on Sunday.

The above three pictures show the oil spill's impact on Singapore's environment.

Work in groups to present a case study of this oil spill.
