What tools do you use most?
“It depends on the material we are using. Painting tools like brushes are different from tools that we use in other projects.”
How do you come up with projects?
“Umm, sometimes I just have an idea in my head, and sometimes I see something on the internet that I like. I am also on a Facebook page with other art teachers.”
Have you ever done any of these projects before you did them with your students?
“I always do it myself before I do it as an example, I often try to work it out and try it a different way before I do it with students”
How long does it generally take your classes to make these projects?
“I try to make the project take at most two weeks”
What projects have you been looking forward to doing with your next class?
“A really fun winter birch tree painting.”
Do you like making examples for students?
“I do because I always love making art and thinking of examples.”
What's your favorite part about these projects?
“I think seeing the excitement in students' faces, when they feel successful, when students do something they’re proud of they didn't think they could do.”
Do students make projects based on what season it is?
“Sometimes but not always, Like the winter Birch tree projects I mentioned, and the Bats.”
This trimester Ms. Amsler has been working on some projects, one of these projects is called Dragon eye sculptures, the first step to make these projects is to draw a picture of what you want the eyes to look like. The next step is to pick out the actual eyes, and to create pieces of the dragon out of clay, and attach them by score (making scratch marks repeatedly) and slipping (adding water over the scratch marks.) After this step you would dry the dragon and paint, and add the eye. These eyes are extraordinary pieces of art, you can look out for these pieces on the site, Amsler Art Room.
