Guts, Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, which was released september 8, 2023 is her second studio album. I review the album and this is my personal opinion on her songs. All American B*tch, a song on Rodrigo’s new album, entitled Guts was very well written and enjoyable to listen to.This song also seemed to show Olivia Rodrigo’s personality and feelings more, which is true of the album as a whole. It seemed to also show a darker side to her as compared to Sour, her first studio album. This song seemed to describe an experience that she went through and was very relatable. Bad idea right?, which was released as a single first from the Guts album, was a number one hit on Billboard’s Hot One Hundred, after she dropped the song on August 11. In the song she tries to talk herself out of meeting up with an ex of hers. It is very catchy and also hits hard. The song perfectly conveys how she is feeling which I feel is one of the most important things about a song. Vampire is another song from the album, about someone who has wronged her in the past. In this song she shares her very open and very honest opinion of someone she seemed to be very close with in the past. It explains how whoever the song was written about wronged her and all of the details of their relationship. It also went to number one on Billboard's Hot One Hundred. The song Lacy from Guts sounded just like what it is called. It is very delicate and quiet, yet still catchy, and an overall great song. It is about how she grows to hate a girl named Lacy, who she at first idolized and then started comparing herself to her. It shows in how the song she progresses from adoring her to loathing her. It symbolizes the singer comparing herself to all the beauty that is normalized on social media. Ballad of Homeschooled Girl has relatable lyrics and is a mid tempoed song. The song’s message of being an outcast and how that feels like you don’t belong,is something everyone has felt at one point or another. This is also a very relatable song.Making the Bed is a sad kind of song and you can feel Rodrigo's Emotion throughout the song. It is about her being tired of ruining everything that she touches. I am sure that everyone can relate to having felt this at least once. Logical is almost poetry-like and is intriguing . It seems to be about falling in love and still wanting to remain logical even though the other person doesn't love you as much as you do. IT is also about trying to keep making sense of things, but also trying to keep the person you love. This song is very personal and the way she wrote it, the lyrics almost flow like poetry. Get Him Back is a very upbeat fun song about wanting to get back together with your ex. B It’s about talking yourself out of wanting your ex back by reminding yourself of all the bad things that they have done, but then reminding yourself of all the things you miss about the person. This song shows an almost endless cycle of is it right or wrong. It is a very catchy, get stuck in your head kind of song that everyone loves. Love is Embarrassing is about how she is in love, but the person keeps hurting her and embarrassing her and how she just keeps putting herself through all of this pain for someone she loves who doesn't even love her. The Grudge is about an undying love that turns into a hatred and a grudge against that person for hurting you. She starts singing about how they both hurt each other, but how the other person hurt her more and how she wants to forgive them, but it's hard t. Pretty isn’t pretty is about how you never feel like you look as good as the person next to you, and how you feel like you’ll never be good enough. This entire album has of way of connecting with anyone, even if they havent had the same experiences as Rodrigo. I definitely recommend this song if you are feeling insecure because it just goes to show how everyone feels insecure and how you aren’t alone. Teenage Dream is about how she feels like she is always underestimated for her age and how she hates that she is always doing good for her grade and not just doing good. This whole album overall had a way of making you feel something and relating with the listener. It supports good morals and lessons by sharing her experiences. There is a song for everyone in this album because of the way Rodrigo experimented with different genres, tempos and melodies in the album.I would definitely recommend it to anyone and it is an incredible album.
