Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is a thrilling tale that is perfectly capable of fully captivating its reader in its meticulously built world and lot as rich as well-made tomato sauce. It is set in the GrishaVerse, which is familiar to those who have read the Shadow and Bone trilogy or its other spinoffs. Specifically, it is set in Ketterdam, a cosmopolitan trade port ruled by a council of rich merchants. One of said merchant councilors, or merchers, as they’re called in Ketterdam, have purchased a drug called jurda parem from distant Shu Han that can drastically augment a Grisha’s ability to use the Small Science, form of magic in this universe, at the cost of being very addictive and detrimental to health. The creator of said drug, Bo Yul-Bayur, was in distress in his homeland and requested that the merchant council take him to Ketterdam. However, on his way he was attacked by the Fjerdans, fearsome warriors of the north, who proceeded to take him to their impenetrable prison, the Ice Court. That is, impenetrable until Kaz Brekker and his crew came along. Kaz Brekker is one of the most powerful gang leaders in Ketterdam’s lower district, the Barrel. He is accompanied by Inej Ghafa, acrobat-turned slave-turned assassin, Jesper Fahey, a formidable gunslinger who never misses a shot, Wylan Van Eck, the disowned son of a prominent merchant, Nina Zenik, a Grisha veteran the Ravkan army, and Matthias Helvar, a Fjerdan witch hunter who was once tasked with killing Nina.
And so, dear reader, I wholeheartedly recommend Six of Crows to read, and have a nice day.
