A Highlight of Girls in Sport: Masconomet Girls Varsity Soccer
By: Ella Mossey
This past month so far has been a big one for Masconomet’s high school athletes. With fall sports season in full swing, our teams have had their fair share of wins. The varsity girls soccer team started their season strong with 13 wins, and no losses or even ties. Their captains this season include Kendall Skully, Taylor Bovardi, Marcy Clapp, and Kylie DuMont. They have outscored their opponents 41-3 and had 10 shutouts (preventing the other team from scoring any points). They have been ranked #2 in Massachusetts division 2, and have grasped the Northeast Conference title. Their state tournament seeding will come around November 1st, and they will have to win to move on.
The team is known to have a big rivalry with Danvers, and successfully won their first game against Danvers this season: 4-0. Their same game was much closer, but they reluctantly won. They scored, tied in the second half, and with only two minutes left they earned a penalty kick. The opposing teams’ goalie saved the shot, but Amanda Schneider pounced on the rebound, and scored, winning the game 2-1.
Some of their upcoming games this season include Monday the 24th away at 4:00 in Marblehead (Marblehead Highschool), and Wednesday the 26th away at Swampscott (Swampscott Highschool).
