How to have a Positive Start to your Day
by: Campbell Robinson
Welcome back to the Masco Minute! Today's Health and Wellness topic is "How to have a healthy and positive start to your morning". I have been thinking a lot about this topic, and I have gone back and forth on the most productive and successful ways to achieve this. So, today I have gathered some personal data, as well as some background research, and I think these tips will help most of you have a better start to your morning.
We all have those mornings where all we want to do is hit the snooze button and go back to sleep. That's ok! It's perfectly normal to want to sleep in, and in fact it is healthy sometimes. But, we have responsibilities and it isn’t always easy to do.
The first tactic I have prepared for you today is to listen to music. Music can wake you up and get you in the right kind of mood to have a good day! I have personally tried this method out, and truthfully it has changed my life. It puts some pep in my step… and this may be hard to believe but it makes me motivated and excited to wake up! Markham Heid, from the Time Magazine states ,’’Studies have shown that music can buoy your mood and fend off depression. It can also improve blood flow in ways similar to statins, lower your levels of stress-related hormones like cortisol (stress hormone) and ease pain.’’ I think that is reason enough! It helps me get ready for the day and I definitely feel more accomplished when I put on my favorite tunes!
The second tactic we have is drinking more water! Now, I know so many people tell you ‘’drink more water’’ but, it seriously works. Every morning when I wake up I drink about 6-8 oz of water. Within minutes I feel more awake and energized to get moving. Drinking water through-out the day is highly recommended too! Deep Patel from Entrepreneur Magazine states,’’People who drink a glass of water as soon as they wake up, then drink one every other hour throughout the day, have been shown to have higher levels of energy and more positive emotions than people who don’t drink as much water.’’ Water is awesome for your body! And whether you like it room temperature or ice cold. You will see differences!!!
The third and final tactic is, eat a healthy breakfast! Breakfast has been shown to always be the most important meal of the day. And lets be honest sometimes we just don’t want to hear it cause lunch is awesome and so is dinner. But, one of the best ways to start your day off right is getting enough energy out of your food, which provides motivation to your day. It can be anything from a bagel to fruit. An article from MedicalNewsToday written by Jon Johnson and reviewed by medical professional Stacy Sampson D.O. states,’’A smaller and healthful breakfast may help people start their day quicker and sustain their energy levels. They could try porridge, cereals, eggs, fruits, and vegetables.’’
These tactics have changed my life, and I think you will find them helpful too! Try them out, and let me know what you think!
