I went to the Frozen Musical on Broadway with my family last month at the Citizens Bank Opera House, and it was a delight to watch. The sound effects were really cool and the visuals were synchronized perfectly with the actor’s lines. The scene changes were flawless and the costumes looked great!
I was concerned about how they would play non-human characters like Olaf and Sven at first, but they found fun solutions that not only expressed the nature of the characters well, but made the show more enjoyable and exciting to watch. Sven had two people inside a reindeer costume with one person bent over for the hind legs. My favorite character was Olaf; the actor held sticks that controlled the Olaf puppet’s limbs like a marionette.
The musical was great. It captured the essence of the movie but added elements of humor and magic. I liked it much better than the actual movie because it was more thrilling to be able to see everything happening right in front of you. However, they did tweak a few details and added some new songs, although they didn’t change anything about Elsa’s iconic solo, Let it Go. I really enjoyed the show, and I highly recommend seeing it when it comes around again at Rhode Island: You can see it March 7-17 at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
James And The Giant Peach-Masconomet Middle School Play Review
by: Sonya Moran and Beatrix Recinos
For months the cast of James and The Giant Peach were hard at work rehearsing in the auditorium. Working towards the fantas-mer-ific show they put on. The show was about an orphan boy, portrayed by Veronica Bloxham. Her character, James, gets adopted by two vicious aunts, Spiker, played by Maddy Regan, and Sponge, played by Elise Steingisser. The show was quirky, fun and upbeat with a great message. It was narrated by the mysterious Ladahlord, (portrayed by Grace Bellardino.) James goes on an exciting adventure with five awesome insects, after accidentally spilling a potion on a peach. The insects were portrayed by Angelica Kotsiras, Maria Peluso, Natalie Walsh, Nektaria Patrikas, and Sonya Moran. These fun loving and heart warming characters get trapped inside a giant peach with James and they sail across the Atlantic Ocean to New York together. James is trying to escape his wicked aunts. The insects try to help him stay strong by sharing fun times, and some stories about their hard pasts. The show was full of laughter as well as heartwarming scenes and upbeat songs. The aunts were super funny and had superb timing. The costumes were incredible. The arms for the bugs and the costumes for the Aunts were just what we needed to help bring our characters to life. The ensemble brought each of the scenes to life. They gave them the energy and excitement needed to put on a wonderful show. The entire crew was fantastic. They helped out with so many things needed backstage. The leader of the crew, Ash Conway, is a sweet and talented person who everyone could count on. In the end, it turned into a show even better than the cast could have imagined. Without everyone who worked towards this with us it could never have been the success that it was. But you can't have an amazing show without an amazing director. Ms. Marsella was the director of this awesome production. She came up with the vision the cast brought to life. She helped everyone come together to help make the show the success it was. Without even knowing it, she gave kids new friendships that will last a lifetime. Thank you to our cast and crew who put on the fantaz-mer-ific show that it was. As well as everyone who came to watch our show! It meant so much to us and I know I treasure every minute that I spent with every person in the cast. I can not wait for our next show!
Love,
