Extended French is a continuation of the French Immersion program into high school. The senior high Extended French Program is offered to students entering grade 10 who have completed an Early or Late French Immersion program in grade 9. Students in the program take Mathématiques, Études Sociales and FLA courses entirely in French. Students graduating from the Extended French program with a minimum of 30 credits including FLA 30, receive a certificate of completion. These FLA courses are available only to students in the Extended French program.
French Language Arts
French Language Arts 10-1 (5 credits)
Recommended Prerequisite: 65% in Grade 9 French Language Arts
Students will continue developing their oral communication, reading, and writing skills. Through their oral and written work, the students will gain a better knowledge of French cultural values. Students displaying a strong work ethic and acceptable levels of achievement will be encouraged to register in FLA 20 AP.
French Language Arts 10-1 Honours (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 75% in Grade 9 French Language Arts
The French Language Arts course continues to develop the student’s linguistic skills, through speaking, reading, and writing situations. The student will also explore the history of French literature as well as the social-cultural values of the French people and their lifestyles. This course will prepare the students for more senior AP courses.
French Language Arts 10-2 (5 credits)
In this course, learning is mainly based on group work situations, reading aloud newspaper and magazine articles, reading short stories and argumentative texts to students, audio texts such as stories, songs, video clips, poems, advertisements, reports, newsletters and interviews, as well audiovisual material such as television programs, films, and plays.
French Language Arts 20-1 (5 credits)
Recommended Prerequisite: 65% in FLA 10-1
Students will continue developing their oral communication, reading, and writing skills. Through their oral and written work, the students will also gain a better knowledge of the French culture.
French Language Arts 20-1 AP (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 75% in 10-1 FLA Honours
This course emphasizes the study of a variety of texts and writing tasks. Students will be able to understand and appreciate texts from numerous sources: novels or short stories, newspapers and magazines and various pieces of literature. Students are encouraged to expand their knowledge of the French language through their writing. Students write the French Language Advanced Placement exam in May of their grade 11 or grade 12 year.
French Language Arts 20-2 (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 50% in FLA 10-2 or 40% (& over) in 10-1
In this continuation of the FLA 10-2 course, learning is mainly based on group work situations, reading aloud newspaper and magazine articles, reading short stories and argumentative texts to students, audio texts such as stories, songs, video clips, poems, advertisements, reports, newsletters and interviews, audiovisual material such as television programs, films, and plays.
French Language Arts 30-1 AP (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 75% in 20-1 AP
FLA AP 30-1 enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. This course engages students in an exploration of culture in both contemporary and historical contexts as well, develops students’ awareness and appreciation of products, both tangible (e.g., tools, books, music) and intangible (e.g., laws, conventions, institutions); practices (patterns of social interactions within a culture); along with perspectives (values, attitudes, and assumptions that underlie both practices and products.
French Language Arts 30-1 (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 65% in FLA 20-1
The French Language Arts 30 course continues to develop the student’s linguistic skills. The student will develop the ability to think logically, read critically, speak knowledgeably, listen actively to increase understanding, and cultivate their written expression. Students will be able to take the DELF (Diplome d’etudes en langue francaise) B2 exam to receive a certificate for their French proficiency skills.

This stream is recommended for students who have successfully completed Mathematics 10C and is designed for those who are planning to enter post-secondary programs such as engineering, mathematics, sciences, some business studies, or other programs that require advanced math skills.
Mathématiques 20-1 AP (5 crédits)
Prerequisite : 75% (& above) in Mathématiques 10C Honours
This course is intended for highly motivated and capable students. This course is like Mathematics 20-1, with some higher-level questioning and additional topics from a higher-level Math (Mathematics 30-1). Graphing calculators will be used to solve problems and develop concepts.
Mathématiques 30-1 (5 credits)
Recommended Prerequisite: 50% in Mathématiques 20-1
This course is for those students wishing to enter post-secondary programs such as engineering or programs that require advanced math skills. This program includes the topics permutations and combinations, relations and functions, transformations, and trigonometry.
