Food Studies 10 (3 credits)
This class will encourage independence and develop skills that can be applied in the students’ daily lives both now and in the future. Students will be challenged to prepare and taste a variety of foods and recipes, expanding on their repertoire. Safety and sanitation, knife handling, cooking techniques, teamwork, and organizational skills will be emphasized and practiced throughout the course. There is a $50 fee for this course.
Food Studies 30 (3 credits)
Prerequisite: Food Studies 20
This course is designed to further develop knowledge, skills, confidence, independence, and employability skills as students prepare for the challenges of becoming more self-sufficient. Students will develop skills in food presentation, entertaining, culinary management, and advanced food preparation techniques. A study of the wide variety of food related careers will be ongoing throughout the course. There is a $60 fee for this course.
Prerequisite: Food Studies 10
Continuing the emphasis on life skills, this class will expand students’ knowledge and skills in food preparation. Students will apply knowledge and skills from the introductory level as they progress to more challenging culinary projects such as butchering and cake decorating. There is a $55 fee for this course.
