Sports Performance Hockey Canada Skills Academy 10/20/30 (5 credits)
Sports Performance Hockey Skills Academy will provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to understand the variety of factors related to the sport of hockey and sports performance. OLR collaborates with Hockey Canada to provide a Hockey Skills Academy (HCSA). Students in the program take “Sports Performance Hockey Skills” 10/20/30. The focus of the course is on, but not limited to training (on and off ice), game analysis, and the study of proper nutrition for high level athletes. Students will have on-ice sessions at Rose Kohn Arena, only 2 blocks away from the school. Guest coaches support the teacher for all on ice sessions. The course is a combination of on-ice instruction, dry- land training and classroom instruction.
HCSA program comes with a program fee of $600, which covers: approximately 40 ice times & a HCSA jersey.
WHAT TIME AND WHERE ARE THE ICE SESSIONS?
8:45-9:45 at Rose Kohn Arena. Students return to school for TA at 10:45 am.
WHAT DO THE STUDENTS DO WITH THEIR HOCKEY EQUIPMENT?
Our Lady of the Rockies leases a storage room at Rose Kohn Arena which has a key code in allowing parents to have access any time of the day.
IS THIS A HOCKEY TEAM?
No it is not. Students play on their own community teams and work on skill development during school ice sessions.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JR. HIGH HOCKEY PROGRAMS AND SR. HIGH HOCKEY PROGRAMS?
A. At the High School level, the hockey program is based on CTS Credits, therefore, a number of classroom topics must be covered.
B. Courses in Sr. High run for one semester only. Students will only be in the hockey program from September - January.
C. Ice sessions may look very similar to Jr. High Skills Academies.
DO GOALIES RECIEVE INSTRUCTION?
Yes. Instructors from World Pro Goaltending work with our goalies 1-2 times per week.
HOW DOES IT WORK WITH DIFFERENT SKILL LEVELS ON THE ICE?
A. Students can preform most drills at their speed. All players need work on fundamentals, but different players work at different speeds.
B. For some drills, skill groups are separated so students are working within a closer range of ability levels.
WHAT IS THE COST?
$600.00 total. $100 deposit in the spring. $250 by Oct 1. $250 by Nov 1.
