Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have had an exciting week this week.
Year R have been having a fantastic time during their balance bike sessions with Mrs Cook, who is enthusiastically putting her recent training to good use. In addition to this, the children have been busy developing their understanding of sharing (division) by skillfully sorting various items into four equal groups.
Year 1 had a tuneful time in their music lesson this week! They particularly enjoyed the warm-up games and had lots of giggles while warming up their faces before launching into song. Additionally, the children in Year 1 worked hard to add descriptive detail to the beginning of their narrative that they are writing and planning to publish this term.
Our Year 2 children have been busy geographers and historians this week! They embarked on a fascinating mission to locate countries participating in the Olympics on a world map using stickers. The children were amazed to discover that over 200 nations come together every four years for this global event.
As part of their art learning, Year 3 have been explored the world of sketching. They practiced a variety of techniques and then skillfully applied these to their own drawings, adding depth and detail to their artwork. In their PE lesson, Year 3 also enjoyed developing their over-arm throwing skills, aiming beanbags into hoops and celebrating every successful throw!
Year 4 have been delving into the strategies of the Roman army in their history lessons. They began by understanding the structure of the Roman legions before heading outside to practice Roman defence formations. This active learning experience provided valuable context for their later work in inferring information from historical sources, and they had a fantastic time bringing Roman tactics to life!
During their maths lessons this week, Year 5 have been immersed into the world of angles. They have been exploring different types of angles, from acute to obtuse and reflex, and have been diligently learning how to accurately measure and draw them using protractors. The children have shown great perseverance in mastering these new skills, tackling challenging problems and applying their understanding to various activities.
Our Year 6 children have been demonstrating remarkable dedication as they continue their focused revision for their upcoming SATs. This week has seen them reviewing key concepts across all subject areas, tackling practice questions, and refining their test-taking strategies. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and the mature way they are approaching this important time in their lives. We hope Year 6 have a relaxing weekend and we look forward to seeing them all for breakfast bright and early on Monday morning!
We hope the Maundene Community have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
To celebrate VE Day, the children participated in an assembly led by Miss Keightley in the KS2 Hall. In addition to this, they also took part in the 2 minute silence at 12pm as a moment of reflection and gratitude for those who fought and sacrificed for the nation's freedom during World War II.
Our wonderful ladies in the kitchen also made lunch time exciting too! The children absolutely loved the flags and decorations whilst eating their lunch. Thank you for the effort you made ladies! We appreciate you!
If you would like your child to be considered for a Medway grammar school they will need to sit the Medway Test (Medway's 11+).
A child can take the Medway Test whether they live in Medway or not.
If you live in Medway but are considering grammar schools in another area you’ll need to contact them and take their own version of the 11+ instead.
Registrations must be submitted between May 19th 2025 and closes on June 13th 2025.
Late registrations after the closing date cannot be considered.

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
