Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
The children in Reception have worked hard this week in their English lessons to identify adjectives to describe the characters from their core text, The Gruffalo. The children identified what an adjective was and then focused on each character individually to describe their appearance. We were so proud of the children as they even progressed onto writing their own adjectives!
This term, the children in Year 1 are focusing on the artist, Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Year 1 had a very exciting week in their art lesson where they were creating their own backgrounds by using brightly coloured paints and different sized paintbrushes. In the final few weeks, the children will be adding their lollipop trees in different stages.
PE was engaging this week for Year 2! The children were developing their gymnastic skills and they tried out different balances and shapes on the mats and apparatus around the hall. Year 2 were really focused during their lesson and collaborated effectively by giving one another positive praise.
Year 3 enjoyed working on their football skills by passing the ball to one another. The focus for the lesson was to use the inside of their foot to pass a ball and send a ball over short distances accurately. The children worked well together and communicated effectively when passing by using one another's name.
Year 4 created a watercolour background as part of their final outcome in art this week which was inspired by Kate Shaw. The children worked in pairs to discuss the colours that they thought would be most effective and then they carefully mixed the colours together. Year 4 then enjoyed identifying the primary and secondary colours within their backfground.
The children in Year 5 loved their art lesson this week where they discussed what they liked and disliked about artwork created by Claude Monet. The children then sketched their final outcome thinking about layers and proportion.
Year 6 absolutely loved participating in their djembe drumming workshop this week. The children listened really carefully and were extremely focused when they were given instructions. Year 6 then had the opportunity to perform to Year 5, which they thoroughly enjoyed as they were able to showcase their new skills.
Young Voices was an absolute success AGAIN this year. Thank you to The Maundene Choir who were exceptional and all of the children and adults involved in preparing for this event. The children did us all proud!
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
We understand that sometimes parents would like to speak to the class teacher about their child but can we please ask that you try not to do this first thing in the morning as staff are busy settling and welcoming the children in to class - this also means if it does happen it may appear rushed and not personal.
Please try to do the followiing unless an emergency:
Catch the teacher at the end of the day
Speak to the office staff, Carla and Emma, who will pass a message on to the class teacher to call you
Email in to the school office which will then be passed on to the class teacher
Thank you for your support and understanding with this.
Following on from Pupil feedback recently, Mrs Jackson and a few of the children in Year 6 have planned a Maundene Talent Show for Year R to Year 6 children.
On Wednesday 8th January 2025, Olivia and Arisha in Year 6 spoke to the school about our Maundene Talent Show. They have told the children the following:
On Friday 10th January 2025, a sign up sheet will be put up in all classrooms where up to 10 children can put their names up to show off their talent to their class. We encourage the children to be very specific about each talent and remember, these may have to be performed in front of the school, therefore they need to be something that the children have rehearsed a lot.
On the afternoon of Friday 31st January 2025, auditions will take place in classrooms and a vote will take place. One person from each class who gets the most votes will go through to a final on Tuesday 4th February at 2pm.
On the afternoon of Tuesday 4th February at 2pm, the final will take place where Mrs Jackson, Arisha and Olivia will decide on a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Finally, on Friday 14th February at 2pm, which is the last day of term, Year R to Year 6 are invited into the hall to watch all finalists perform.
We are really excited for all children to show off their talents and we can not wait to celebrate with them.
