Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
The children had a busy week and the sun was shining!
This week, Year R thoroughly enjoyed the activities in the EYFS provision. The children painted dried pasta and then developed their fine motor skills by threading pipe cleaners through. It was fantastic to observe the children demonstrating our Character Skill of Relationships by working collaboratively with one another and supporting their friends.
Year 1 loved their trip to the library this week. The children explored different genres of books and shared some of their favourite books with one another. It was wonderful to see Year 1 continuing to develop their love of reading.
As part of their art learning, Year 3 had a busy week. They particularly enjoyed researching facts abut the Ancient Egyptians and creating a Mood Board based on the artist Clare Haxby. The children worked extremely hard during their art lesson and demonstrated our Value of Resilience by trying their best!
Year 4 have been learning about sound in science this week. The children started by discussing how sound is made from vibrations, before using a variety of instruments to hear how sound differs! They have loved investigating how each instrument varies in volume and pitch.
This week, Year 5 demonstrated amazing collaboration. They worked together to examine evidence based on their core text, 'Too Much Trouble', before deciding whether Emmanuel and Prince should face the consequences of their crimes.
Finally, Year 6 worked hard to identify the features of a newspaper article during their English lessons this week. The children enjoyed exploring various newspaper articles around pig heart transplants and used their sentence stems to scaffold their discussions.
We hope you have a wonderful bank holiday weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
If you could provide any of the following to our Reception Team, we would be so grateful:
Cable Drums (or if you know anyone who could provide them)
Measuring equipment (e.g. jugs, cylinders) for the children to use in water-based play
As a school, we are asking for you to be considerate when you are parking your cars at the beginning and the end of the school day.
Residents in the local area have been in touch with Medway Council to address the ongoing parking issues, particularly in Illustrious Close.
The Council has acknowledged receiving multiple tickets and reports about this problem from residents of the Close. Vehicles are being logged as 'nuisance vehicles' on their website, which is publicly accessible at https://www.medway.gov.uk/NuisanceVehicle.
Please be aware that if your vehicle is reported and appears on this map, there is a risk of it being towed if found parked illegally. The Council has also confirmed that camera cars are actively monitoring the area and may issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) to offending vehicles.

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
