Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have had an exciting week this week.
Year R have been having lots of fun this week enjoying the sunshine outside. The children were exploring the mud kitchen and water trays, mixing a range of sensory experiences and thinking creatively. In addition to this, the children loved developing their division skills in maths by sharing numbers equally.
As part of their English learning, Year 1 worked very hard on their story writing and they edited their own work using purple pen. The children read through their stories carefully and then identified any spellings that were incorrect and any words they could improve. Year 1 finished the week by writing their narratives on publishing paper and using pens!
Throughout their geography lessons, Year 2 were comparing the London and Tokyo Olympics this week, particularly focusing on location, date, mascot and stadiums. In addition to this, the children finished publishing their narratives about Fauja Singh. The children worked hard to include expanded noun phrases and conjunctions within their writing and they edited their learning using purple pen.
As part of their French learning, Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed continuing to work on their French pronunciation when learning about fruit and vegetables. The children were saying which fruit and vegetables they did and did not like in full sentences in French - they were amazing! After working on their pronunciation, the children then progressed onto writing sentences about fruits and vegetables in their books. Well done Year 3!
The children in Year 4 have continued learning about hidden disabilities. The children heard from adults around the school about their experiences includind ADHD, epilepsy and ASD before completing a table on what it looks like and how it can be supported. The children demonstrated incredible compassion and respect. As part of their learning about Romans in history, the children discussed how the Roman army is structured before practicing their defence formations outside - which they loved doing!
During their reading lessons this week, Year 5 were using highlighters to support them in retrieving information from a text. The children were extremely excited about this and they worked through their reading questions in pairs, discussing the key words that they needed to look for within the text. After this, Year 5 then highlighted the key words before writing them down as the answer.
Our Year 6 children have worked extremely hard this week during SATs week. The children have been so responsible and mature and we are proud of their achievements. They finished the week enjoying an end of SATs celebration. Well done Year 6!
We hope the Maundene Community have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
If you would like your child to be considered for a Medway grammar school they will need to sit the Medway Test (Medway's 11+).
A child can take the Medway Test whether they live in Medway or not.
If you live in Medway but are considering grammar schools in another area you’ll need to contact them and take their own version of the 11+ instead.
Registrations must be submitted between May 19th 2025 and closes on June 13th 2025.
Late registrations after the closing date cannot be considered.

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
Activity:
