Maundene Weekly

Dear Parents/Carers,
It was a great start to the week for the children as they had their second transition morning with their new teachers. The teachers focused on expectations within each year group and the children participated in English and maths activities, demonstrating their presentational skills.
This week, Reception had an amazing week. They've been busy little bees, quite literally, by enjoying making some fantastic bee hats. They also made the most of the lovely weather, heading outside to create shape bugs, craft some incredible fine motor masterpieces and even work on self-portraits to give to their new teacher.
A huge well done to Kingfisher Class! As a well-deserved reward for raising over £500 for the Colour Run, they've been having so much fun today. We hear they'll be cooling off with some ice poles very soon – what a treat!
In their maths lessons, Year 1 has been busy exploring the concept of time. They've done a brilliant job learning to label a clock and are now practicing telling "o'clock." We're so proud of how they've been able to show a given time, making sure the big hand is on the 12 and the small hand is on the hour.
Year 2 enjoyed their maths this week where they were learning about describing the position of objects using left and right. The children also used the language of above, below and between. At the end of the week, the children used their understanding of the mathematical vocabular to solve multi-step problems.
Year 3 had an absolutely brilliant Egyptian Day on Thursday. They delved deep into Ancient Egypt, creating impressive double-page spreads, tackling hieroglyphic maths, making Egyptian flatbread and even designing their own death masks.
As part of their science learning, Year 4 showcased all their hard work through creating fantastic double-page spreads. They also had an amazing time on their trip to the Science Museum this week! It was a day packed with singing, laughter, exploration and, of course, lots of science. A truly memorable day for them all!
Year 5 applied resilience to their maths learning this week as they were developing their confidence to multiply a fraction by an integer. As part of their English learning, the children published narratives based on Romeo and Juliet. The children loved reading them aloud to one another and giving constructive feedback to further improve their writing.
What a fantastic week Year 6 have had! The production was incredible. Well done to all of the children for their commitment to rehearsals, ensuring they say their lines clearly and loudly and remember their specific dances to the songs they sang. It was such a great show and we really appreciate all of the adults involved who helped the children to rehearse and provided props and costumes.
In the evening on Friday, the children in Year 6 have their prom. Thank you so much to the PTA and all of the parents who supported in the planning of this event. The hall looks amazing!
It's wonderful to see so much engagement and learning happening across the school. We're already looking forward to our final week of year next week!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
