Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
Reception have continued working extremely hard this week, particularly in their English and maths lessons. In English, the children used adjectives in sentences to describe the next villain that they were focusing on - the big bad wolf! In maths, the children used the part whole model to support them in adding two numbers together to make a whole.
As part of their art learning, the children in Year 1 enjoyed learning how to sew this week! The children carefully threaded their needle and used resilience to create stitches in their material. We are so proud of our Year 1 children as this was an extremely challenging activity for them! Well done!
Year 2 had an exciting week as they had a Victorian workshop in connection with their history learning. The children participated in drama activities, shared their existing knowledge and learnt lots of new interesting facts about the Victorian Era.
In their English lessons this week, Year 3 worked in groups to plan their persuasive speech about Human Rights. The children worked together to ensure they included a range of conjunctions and persuasive devices within their plan so that when they started writing their speech, they included all of the features of a persuasive letter.
Year 4 enjoyed experimenting with oil pastels to create tropical skylines. The children used vibrant colours to bring their tropical skylines to life and used darker tones to create bold silhouettes. Tiger Troops was another exciting activity for Year 4 this week! The children completed drills and had to work as part of a team to build a camp.
As part of their science learning about light, the children in Year 5 used globes and torches to investigate how the rotation of the Earth causes night and day. The children worked in groups to discuss how the rotation of the Earth's axis contributes to making seasons such as summer and winter.
Year 6 enjoyed their science lesson this week that focused on developing their knowledge about Evolution. The children participated in a live webinar lesson where they explored interesting facts about how we have evolved as humans and they then had the opportunity to ask a range of questions that they had planned prior to the session.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
To ensure the safety and well-being of all children, we kindly request that you refrain from including fizzy drinks, nuts, chocolate bars, and sweets in packed lunches. These items can pose risks due to allergies, high sugar content, and overall nutritional value. Thank you for your cooperation in providing a balanced and healthy lunch for your child.
We are currently collecting resources for wet play for the children to use across the school. We would be really grateful if the following could be donated to the Office:
-colouring pencils
-crayons
-colouring books
-puzzle books e.g. word searches, dot-to-dot, crosswords, sudoku
We understand that sometimes parents would like to speak to the class teacher about their child but can we please ask that you try not to do this first thing in the morning as staff are busy settling and welcoming the children in to class - this also means if it does happen it may appear rushed and not personal.
Please try to do the followiing unless an emergency:
Catch the teacher at the end of the day
Speak to the office staff, Carla and Emma, who will pass a message on to the class teacher to call you
Email in to the school office which will then be passed on to the class teacher
Thank you for your support and understanding with this.

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
