Dear Parents/Carers,
What a fantastic week it's been across the school!
Our Reception children have been blossoming this week as they delve into the world of plants. They really enjoyed labelling and writing about what plants need to grow and thrive. It has been wonderful to see their scientific curiosity!
Year 1 had an absolutely brilliant time on their trip to Fenn Bell Zoo. They enjoyed a fascinating tour, cooled down with ice poles in the shade and even got to experience a special feeding talk before lunchtime.
In their art lesson, Year 2 were creating their sports murals. They started by using pencils to draw a sports person and the background. After that, they used black pens and paints to bring their drawing to life. They created such wonderful masterpieces!
This week in RE, Year 3 were introduced to the fascinating concept of Karma. The children discussed how showing kindness to all living things is central to this idea. To help children connect with this, they were introduced to meditation as a quiet time to calm the mind and foster kindness, even trying a short, simple breathing exercise together. The children loved it.
Our incredible Mental Health Champions in Year 4 have been shining brightly. They led a Mental Health Workshop this week for Year 2, creating a fun and interactive sessions. The children supported the Year 2s with activities they had designed and shared the importance of mental health. A huge well done to them for their amazing learning and leadership.
Year 5 built on their learning from last week in science and identified the independent, dependent, and control variables within an investigation. They were absolutely amazed to watch balloons grow as they trapped the gas created by yeast – a truly exciting experiment!
It was a big week for our Year 6 children as they've had their transition days at their new schools. In addition to this, they've been busy in class researching about their new schools, including their locations and other important details. We wish them all the best as they prepare for this exciting next chapter!
We hope you've enjoyed this glimpse into some of the engaging learning experiences happening across our school. Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
Congratulations to Meg, our School Counsellor, who will be expecting her first baby! We look forward to announcing the arrival of her baby boy in the near future!
You will see in the diary below the planned "Meet the Teacher" meetings - these will be in the KS2 hall and will be a chance to have a brief presentation about your child's new teachers and year group. Children are welcome to attend but must be sitting with their adults and not running around or left on the playground. Please be aware that this is not a time to discuss your child on a one-to-one basis, if needed this will happen in September.

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
