Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have been extremely busy this week!
In Reception, the children were drawing and making a range of different fruit this week using pencils, paints and playdough. In addition to this, Reception made their very own fruit salads, which was associated with their learning about their core text, Lunch at 10 Pomegranate Street. The children were extremely enthusiastic about their fruit salad and lots of the children enjoyed tasting it too!
Year 1 have been planning a persuasive letter to Izzy Gizmo in English as her invention did not work and the children wanted her to apply resilience and not give up! During their maths lessons, the children have been applying resilience to their learning focused on number bonds to 10. Year 1 loved using cubes and other manipulatives to support them when they were solving their number bonds to 10.
As part of their English learning, Year 2 enjoyed writing their narrative about The Rainbow Fish! The children in Year 2 have loved learning about this core text and they have really worked hard to use expanded noun phrases to add detail to their writing. Throughout their maths learning, the children solved many calculations focusing on column addition and subtraction. Although this was challenging, the children applied resilience and did they best!
In RE, Year 3 explored different artefacts that related to their learning about the religion, Christianity. During their PE lesson this week, Year 3 loved developing their hockey skills by holding the hockey stick correctly and passing the ball to one another in pairs.
During their science lesson, Year 4 were focusing on teeth. The children were looking at the structure of teeth in the mouth before completing an experiment to find out which ‘teeth’ will rot the quickest!
This week, Year 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from Alex, who is a farmer from Myatts of Mockbeggar in Rochester, to talk to them about local agriculture. This linked with their geography learning about how the local climate impacts agriculture production in the UK and other countries. Throughout their maths lesson this week, Year 5 were developing their understanding of division. The children used manipulatives to support them when dividing by 3-digit numbers. The children were extremely resilient and tried their best!
Year 6 created their own monochromatic wheels using water colours to explore shades of colours in their art lesson this week. In addition to this, the children explored physical features of the UK and the USA during their geography lesson. Year 6 worked together in their kagan groups to do this activity and enjoyed using atlases and additional resources to support their learning.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you all on Monday.

Please find attached the Medway foodback 2024 Reverse Advent Calendar. Medway foodbank have received amazing support during the Harvest period but demand for their services remains high in Medway so if you feel able to donate to us as we head into the Christmas period, we would be extremely grateful for your help.
Maundene will be collecting the food donations over the month of November and we will then be arranging a collection from the foodbank. Please send any items into school and we will store them until collection day.

Well done to Christopher in Ospreys for acheiving man of the match at a recent football match.
Well done to Chloe in Ospreys who recently passed her tap exam with distinction and received a plaque and certificate. Amazing work!
There was so much to celebrate in Woodpeckers this week! Well done to Elliot, Adam and Mia on their achievements, we are so proud!
James in Swans had an amazing experience at Wingham Wildlife last weekend. James was a zoo keeper for a day (which is what he wants to be when he's older). He got to help feed and clean out lots of different animals, but the lorikeets and wallabies were among his favourites! What an amazing experience!
