Maundene Weekly

Dear Parents/Carers,
We hope you had a wonderful break and if you celebrate, a lovely Christmas. It has been a joy to see all of the children back this week and for them to share all of the amazing things they have done over the break.
Year 6 commenced the week by focusing on ratio in maths. The children were working collaboratively to answer a range of questions focusing on ratio. In addition to this, the children enjoyed their hook for their new text, Gorilla Dawn. They went on an information scavenger hunt to find out about the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The children in Year 5 had an engaging start to the term where they explored Ancient Greece pottery and created a mood board about this topic. In addition to this, the children enjoyed using Newton Meters to measure the weights of objects in their classroom.
Year 4 used laptops to research Matthew Henson who is from their core text, Race to the Frozen North. The children were could not believe some of the interesting facts they were able to find out.
Year 3 loved their geography lesson focusing on the location of Brazil and the UK and how they compare. The children spoke about the continents that these counties are in and then compared whether they were in relation to the world.
Year 2 started learning about Hinduism and they visited the Mandir virtually. The children discussed how Hindu's worship in the home and in the Mandir.
Year 1 loved eating popcorn whilst they watched the film Up, which was a fabulous hook in their new core text for the term, which is actually a film! The children are looking forward to learning more about the book and film throughout this term.
Year R were extremely excited to commence their learning this term which focused on the core text, The Gruffalo. They had an engaging workshop focusing on the text and loved exploring the story and its characters through drama, music, dance and craft.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
We understand that sometimes parents would like to speak to the class teacher about their child but can we please ask that you try not to do this first thing in the morning as staff are busy settling and welcoming the children in to class - this also means if it does happen it may appear rushed and not personal.
Please try to do the followiing unless an emergency:
Catch the teacher at the end of the day
Speak to the office staff, Carla and Emma, who will pass a message on to the class teacher to call you
Email in to the school office which will then be passed on to the class teacher
Thank you for your support and understanding with this.
Following on from Pupil feedback recently, Mrs Jackson and a few of the children in Year 6 have planned a Maundene Talent Show for Year R to Year 6 children.
On Wednesday 8th January 2025, Olivia and Arisha in Year 6 spoke to the school about our Maundene Talent Show. They have told the children the following:
On Friday 10th January 2025, a sign up sheet will be put up in all classrooms where up to 10 children can put their names up to show off their talent to their class. We encourage the children to be very specific about each talent and remember, these may have to be performed in front of the school, therefore they need to be something that the children have rehearsed a lot.
On the afternoon of Friday 31st January 2025, auditions will take place in classrooms and a vote will take place. One person from each class who gets the most votes will go through to a final on Tuesday 4th February at 2pm.
On the afternoon of Tuesday 4th February at 2pm, the final will take place where Mrs Jackson, Arisha and Olivia will decide on a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Finally, on Friday 14th February at 2pm, which is the last day of term, Year R to Year 6 are invited into the hall to watch all finalists perform.
We are really excited for all children to show off their talents and we can not wait to celebrate with them.
