Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
As part of their English learning this week, Year R used phonics mats to support them when sounding out key words to write their Christmas letters. In maths, the children were learning about adding and subtracting one from a number under 5 and they used cubes to support them in solving calculations.
The children in Year 1 used number lines to support them with their maths lessons this week as they were adding and subtracting numbers. In English lessons, the children finished writing their step by step instructions focusing on 'How to make a Paper Aeroplane' and then published their writing on publishing paper.
Year 2 were learning the five times table this week during their maths lessons and in English, the children continued writing their persuasive letter to Miss Capes. The children ended the week by publishing their letter.
Throughout their curriculum lesson this week, Year 3 were focusing on sustainability in the Stone Age in preparation for completing their double page spread. The double page spread is an opportunity for the children to answer a question about their learning from the term. The children are encouraged to separate their learning using sub-headings and to use key vocabulary within their writing.
Year 4 were engaged in their geography lesson this week which focused on the human and physical geography of Germany and the UK. The children undertook their own research and then spent time comparing similarities and differences between the two countries.
In their English lessons this week, Year 5 were focusing on using dialogue to advance their plot within their writing. Within their maths lessons, the children demonstrated resilience as they were adding mixed numbers togethers.
Year 6 continued their English learning about Stella by Starlight and they finished their informal letters. The children identified examples of informal language in other text extracts and then used these examples within their own piece of writing.
Alongside all of the fabulous learning taking place, we have had a wonderfully Christmas week with all of our children participating in Winter/Christmas events.
On Tuesday, Year R invited their parents, carers and family members along to a Christmas Singalong, The children were incredibly brave standing in front of everybody to sing a variety of Christmas songs. Thank you to everybody who came to support their children.
On Wednesday, Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 attended Christ the King Church where they participated in a Christmas Carol Concert. The children were absolutely amazing and made us all feel so proud. Well done to all of our readers for displaying such bravery and courage.
On Thursday and Friday, Year 1 and 2 participated in their Nativity entitled, 'Lights Camel Action'. Year 1 have worked extremely hard to learn all of the songs and they sang beautifully. Year 2 demonstrated courage as they all had acting roles with lines and dances to remember! Well done Year 1 and 2 for doing four performances over the two days. You really did us proud.
Thank you to all of the adults who attended events this week. Your support means so much to the children.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
